I wonder about that too, the naughty bits, lol! I'm actually really nervous right now because I want to have my hubby read over my current chapter - first time I've ever written a sex scene from the male POV (besides LH, which for some reason isn't counting in my head, lol!). So that should be interesting! Yes, you have to own the naughty bits! Those are some of the best parts, lol! Don't change a thing! Actually, you should feel quite safe about it, because he would have stopped reading if he didn't like it by now. I mean, nobody's got a gun to his head, right?

LOL! Oh man, Deyon strikes again. I bet that'd put a smirk on his face to imagine you blushing at that thought. ETA: Laura, you snuck in there on me. A sex scene from a male POV-- oh I can't wait for that. I'm sure your husband won't mind, right? That has to lead to some interesting conversations. Maybe the LH scenes aren't counting because we know our audience is mostly female and they haven't got a clue what sex is like from the male POV than we do? But they'll love it just the same.

I found out last summer that one of my IRL friends had been following my stuff. Caught me completely off-guard, but I don't think it changed the way I write all that much.

That's good. Your stuff is awesome though as it is with no need to feel bashful about anything you've done. I finally finished catching up on Naroni (but for the most recent entry because I don't want the nightly reading to be over ). You're probably due for a large almost gushing comment soon, lol.

Wow! As far as I know, only one RL friend has read any of my story, and I think it was just the first one. She really liked it, but she's pretty busy and I don't think she ever read the others. I think I could handle some of my RL friends reading my story, but certainly not all of them. Especially the guys.

I have a RL friend who's reading my current story. And a RL Internet friend who is too. And an Internet friend. And that is all. I'm not really game for anyone else to read them.

Oh man, I just totally had a strange dream about something that I can work into a story. But it's something that would probably happen a century or so down the road. And it probably didn't happen on the landmass I'm exploring right now.

Oh wow, that's huge! I had no idea your story spanned that far! Super cool that the idea came from a dream!

lol, oh yeah. I'm in that whole camp of stories never really ending. Ruin is about the people, but it's also a story about the world too. I keep peeking into their future and trying to find out about their past, but I'm trying not to force it. It all comes out in bits and pieces when I start writing.

Probably, lol. I can definitely see it going through some interesting transitions.

I showed J the pages I had typed up, the start of a short story and a first chapter redone, because he's always impressed when I manage to write things. This time he was as impressed as usual (makes me feel like I've accomplished something even if he doesn't read them), and so he asked if we needed to get me a typewriter and a bottle of bourbon. I'm not much of a drinker, so I asked if we could just get the bottle and then put in my green tea, so I could pretend. He then offered to find me some candy cigarettes. Perhaps LSB needs a proper typewriter feature that actually makes the typewriter noise (because that's the important part).

We have about seven packs of candy cigarettes in the cabinet - got them at the Mast General Store when we went up there with my mother. We were all "OMG, those are still legal?!" and snapped up like two of every kind. Perhaps I should pull them out - I feel like I should be smoking sometimes when I think about writing. Also - grats on the writing!

Loving all the speculation going on with the end of Cheryl's story. (Oh that sounds so final.)
It's very much like when I write. I end up going, "Wait, how did you get all the way over here? And why're you (pointing to another character) acting like that?"
Just remember that I do enjoy throwing in some visual clues too, and that last entry did have one. Well two really. But I might be doing that thing I did a lot with Michael and Edith's story where I thought I was giving clues, but they were a little too subtle, lol.

A lot of the time my pics are pretty much throw away/not necessary, but this time there are some clues in there. Surprise! lol!

Speculations abound! I thought there might be three people in the doorway of Cheryl's cell....
But also, the picture of Paula as a toddler is very striking....I wonder if that's Cheryl holding her, or if it's actually Henri? Though...maybe the shoulders aren't wide enough for it to be Henri....
Though...the first picture, with the title--I thought it was Paula when she was a child, standing in a field and maybe Cheryl watching her....but maybe it isn't Cheryl? I'm really picking at the pictures now.
So...Henri's been accused of rape at least twice then--the first time it got him taken away and put into a lab. So did they start doing experiments on the prison population or the so-called undesirables of society (thus giving them powers when they experimented on them) or did they choose people who had powers? And Henri's power happens to make him more susceptible to being charged with rape, for some reason....like it has something to do with control over others. I can't remember if we found out whether Michael's parents were experiments themselves or not....

Rachel, OMG, I am blind, lol! How do we manage to look at the same picture, and I couldn't even tell that it was a person and not a bed that toddler-Paula was sleeping on!?! Fascinating!

You're definitely on it, those last two pics are the ones that have the clues. Especially the picture of toddler Paula. The first one is indeed Paula as a kid running up a hill to look at stars with her mother following her. (I have the full size as my desktop right now, lol.) And that last picture, there are three people in that shot, but it's not necessarily a good thing. Also, Henri having powers that seem to make him more susceptible to rape charges. It's probably just Henri. I think, even if he's ever spent any time at all wanting to be left alone, it seems he's one to end up in some position with some power, and I don't believe he gets elected into these spots by other looking for leadership-- at least not all the time.) And we didn't learn anything about Micheal's parents. I'll be honest that I don't know anything about his parents. Maybe their story will one day surprise me?

It's because Laura was watching The Last Unicorn yesterday, but it reminded of the one time I went to Anime Expo down in Southern CA and I met Peter S. Beagle. I'm really shy though, so this was not nearly as glamorous or as casual as it sounds. It was pretty awkward, but I remember what he said. He told me that he had no idea how popular the story would be, and he was rather surprised by it. It was just something that popped into his head, he wrote it, and it took off on its own after that. Don't mind me, I'm pretty much looking for inspiration from anywhere at the moment while I work through what Laura calls a growth spurt. (And it does feel that way. I'm not all that impressed with myself. ) That's why updates are late again, but I think I have the next two written out. Trying to give them some time before I review, so I'll post tomorrow. (This is more of a stern talk with myself than an update on progress, lol.)

Oh how cool! I'm not sure if I've ever met a real author before, and if I had, I think I'd be terrified to actually talk, lol! Just keep writing! And when you don't feel like writing, then read lots and lots. Here's my theory on growth spurts - or at least, this is how they feel to me. It's like the skill set in your mind just jumped up a whole level. That's why you don't feel like your usual mode of writing feels good enough anymore, because you're a whole grade higher now. You've already grown. So now you just need to give your writing a little bit of time to catch up with your brain. And the awesome thing about these growth spurts is that once you do start writing again, and it's flowing again, you can compare the new pieces with the old and you can see how much better it is. It'll come around again! It always does!

That is a great theory and feels like it's very accurate. I mean, I've decided to try my hand at a novel and a whole new skill set is required. The story has to be told in a completely different way and man, that ending is so far off it's not even funny. Every chapter I write, I end up having to go back and rewrite. OMG this is so much work, how do people just crank things out.
Oh and I was completely terrified. I had just reread The Last Unicorn too, but I wasn't carrying it on me. I ended up buying some prints with the characters on it and asking him to sign it. He was a very nice guy probably dealing with a lot of weird kids like me who'd grown up with the story like it was a mother goose story told by the VCR.
