I've been planning to play a hood for ages now, and hoping to get on with it when the WYDC is over. I missed the hood play from TS1 so much when I got TS2 that I stopped playing TS2 and went back to TS1 (I am impressed with those of you who can do it in TS2, I guess hacks help). My plan was to turn off ageing and play on epic as well so I could age them up when I fancy.
I don't know what the prosperity challenge even entails so I don't think I'll use any specific rules, I just want to play as I did in TS1, cheating some families, playing 'properly' with others, fulfilling some LTWs and careers but not with everyone, seeing how relationships develop, telling their stories. I want to play with the townies too so they'll be included, though not all at once. I do like Laura's random events idea though.
Twallan's mods are going to be my go-to; certainly the Master Controller and Porter but maybe some of the others too.

Rad, I think we play very similarly. That's why I'm throwing ideas to the people who will make it happen. Rachel, it should be perfectly fine to have more than one rabbit hole if you wanted. Actually, in my "city world"-- a thing I threw together quickly to place Henri's apartment in for this part of the story-- I use the rabbit holes as decoration all over the place. That probably explains why Jimmy and Brandon both have jobs in the science career along with Henri. Oops! I have to agree with Kiri, Ambitions does open game play up more. (Though still not enough, but Ani's hack helps with that.) But WA is fun for me as a game player, though there is some repetition I think. There are also lots of secrets to discover. Plus it adds cameras. But most importantly, I love the registers. What I want is that illusion of self sufficiency. Okay, but here's my question: How to do the taxes? Here's what I'm thinking. With the story progression mod, you can transfer funds. Most prosperity style players hand the money over to one person who acts as a money holder. Then you can have that person buy these items by Ani. So long as their inventory stayed intact, you'd be fine. But I think a bigger denomination would be needed for those. (50k and 100k) He puts up how to fix them, it shouldn't be too hard to clone a couple extra and then change the amount. Also, another thing I was curious about would be mortgages. I think the story progression has the ability to start a family off in dept. Has anyone given that a try?

Prosperity challange was great. Bit time consuming. Use a normal dice roll for how many families you start with, then roll for amount in each family and their ages, then play the hood in synch with eachother. I think with the Twallan's story progression you can put a house in stasis so nothing happens with them whilst you play the other house, but you will need to remember to change a back to stasis when you're done with it. As for debts and mortgages would using the family funds cheat to subtract the money help? This tells you how to use Twallans story progression phase 5 to get a mortgage. You can even adjust the interest rate-but it's kind of like a loan they take out when they move in I think, but this tells you how to adjust the rate nicely and everything. Sims 3 mortgage

There's also a setfamilyfunds cheat, which means you can tell the game how much cash your family has, which would work if you wanted to take money off them and so on.
EDIT: Whoops, Pink beat me to it!

A) None of you are talking too much B) You are all making my head spin! I'm going to start a story where I'm going to need my own neighbourhood, so clearly create-a-world will help.
Questions.
Every link I click on for Twallan's Awesomemod is for an earlier version, can anyone tell me where to find it currently? Also, what else do I need!? Haha.. thats very basic, but I'm new to a) modding and b) posing with large groups of people. Mostly I just follow the Stephansdom's around.

Awesome Mod is MATY - that's Pescado's. I don't use it, but that's because I won't use core mods. Twallan's Story Progression is at ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?board=105.0Twallan also has many other mods that are awesome. All his mods are non-core mods.

So...I think this is the perfect place to come up with some ROSs to use as well. Some of those used in the TS2 hoods may not work...I don't know.
I thought of one that might be fun when I realized that I'd want to build some churches in my hood at some point so that we could have weddings and stuff there. Would a good ROS would be something like: "Whoa, you lost/gained your faith!" and make them do things in accordance with that (atheist/agnostic Sims probably wouldn't marry in church, and that may be a factor in the types of significant others they choose, as well)?
Just an idea.

I think that's a great idea! I really like that (and I'm having a church AND a minister and his family in my hood).
Where do we find the TS2 ROS's to mutilate? We could also have some based on LTW/traits? I reckon that would be cool too.

I think a lot of people made up their own ROSs....I know Laura did. I found a text file of her ROSs once, but I have no idea where I found it...it might be on my desktop.
Basing them on LTWs would be great...I'm so excited to do this, but I'm taking a cue from Rad and finishing my WYD first (which means I won't do this for a while, blargh). But hopefully by the time I start this up, a lot of kinks will be worked out and maybe a few more hacks will be stable that will help this project along.

I'll have a look at these ROS's and come up with something that we can start with and tweak a bit. Will that be OK? I think I'll have a look at doing something with the traits as well.
I've got all the expansions, so I'll include all the traits for them, and we can add any that they include for Late Night when it comes.
Thanks Laura! for those links - you are truly wonderful!

I've been thinking about the schooling situation for the last few days....
So....since as far as I know (which admittedly, I don't keep up with these things as well as others), there are no school hacks for TS3, I was wondering if just deleting the school and setting up one of your own would be okay. I'm pretty sure something like this has been suggested before. I think with even some non-core mods there is probably a tool to import particular Sims to a lot....so, you can set up a "school" with skilling objects and bring them to it, maybe? I don't know. It's probably quite a bit of trouble...but it might be worth it to have the school flavor in some updates. I've really been inspired by the schools that Carla and Laura have set up in their TS2 blogs...
Another thing I've been thinking about is a kind of simulated college. You could have college-age Sims live in a particular area and for about half the normal work day, you could have them work on skills pertaining to the career they think they want, and then the rest of the day is theirs. Depending on what type of funding situation they have, some will have to get jobs, but like many college kids it could be restricted to part-time jobs (given their schedules). Coming up with a way to determine whether a kid goes to "college" or not would be interesting....and what's really nifty about this is that if an adult wanted an advanced degree, you could make them go to night school, and they could write a book to serve as a masters thesis or something.
Just a few things I've been thinking about--any thoughts or suggestions?

Twallan's hacks does allow home-schooling. You can download the homework from the computer once you've registered.
I know it works for Teens, I'm not sure for children.

Oooh!
So they could go to the school I manufacture on a community lot, and then go home and still have to do homework and get grades that way? That could work! And there are some kids I think I would want to actually be homeschooled (never go to the "school" lot I would make....that would make for an interesting mix...
I think I'm going to have to start up a test 'hood before I start up the real one to test all these things out. That would be the best thing to do, probably....

I think so Twallan is a god Given that you can download the homework from the computer, you could probably have them do their homework at their fake school

I'm just putting this here so that I don't forget when I want to build my world--I want to put in a retirement community. I saw that in someone else's blog--I can't remember if it was Lakeside Heights or Sullivan Sims. But I think it will be easier to play elders that way, if they can live somewhere with more elders and maybe even get roommates (I'm thinking of The Golden Girls here, ).

Yes, like Golden Girls! Here's my tag on it - I've only written two updates for them so far, but I have another coming up. Pine Hollow has a retirement community too, so you might want to check over there as well.

Ah, yeah, you probably did see the retirement home I had in Sullivan. It didn't last long. Personally, I find that I prefer to play elders either living with their kids and grandkids, or in their own houses. I got bored with the retirement home thing. I sort of knew I would but I thought I'd give it a try anyway, seeing it does work well for so many others.

I don't know that I'd put all my elders there....but at least some. Maybe I could interpret certain wants as a desire to move to the retirement community? Or certain fears and wants from their children as indications that they should have that talk with their parents...
I can't wait to start building, but at the same time I want a good idea of what I want before I do. I really need to start experimenting with world builder, though, because it's a bear. I'd like to go ahead and get most of the lots placed, because I don't like the in-game lot placement tool all that much.
It's already sounding like my world is going to be huge. Part of me wonders if my excitement is mostly in setting this stuff up, ;D.
