I wrote an intimate scene today as an exercise. One had popped into my head, and I was so surprised by it that I knew I'd have to write it out. Before I wrote it out, I googled "Best kissing scenes in books" -- got me nothing useful. But it led me to a hilarious blog that has excerpts from books that have been up for the Bad Sex Award. Strangely, reading some of those made me feel so much better, because at least I didn't write something as bad as those examples! And those are in published books! I wrote my scene, and I think I like it. But I don't know if I'll ever get the guts to put it out there....I might have to. If nothing else, after some events have transpired, I might put it up as an extra text-only scene so that people who like that sort of thing can read it.

When in doubt, Google, lol! And yeah, I've had that thought. Oh I hope you do post it up. ;D

Holy crap.
I had an epiphany today. I can't say much about it, but....let's just say that somehow, I've discovered an alternative way to er....resolve one of the issues that was weighing on me with the Edith Prescott Mystery series. I have no idea why I didn't think of this alternative before, because it was so obvious once I did...but...I think it is a good thing, and I think it will make me braver in where I'll take the story.
Wow. I'm just stunned at how slow my brain is sometimes.

Illandrya: lol! Not so much to tease as it was to mark the day I figured it out. It will be interesting to see how long it will take me to reveal it! I will say that it is a major issue. One of the primary issues, really. I was also just so appalled at how long it took me to figure out a way to resolve it satisfactorily. I knew what had to be done, but I didn't like having to do it....now I'm actually looking forward to it!

Thank you for linking those Bad Sex Awards, lol! Hilarious! There's some pretty awful writing in there!

Laura: I know, right? If you ever feel bad about a love scene, odds are it's a hell of a lot more genuine (and less outlandish) than any of those!

OMG, that first one! Although I have to admit it's a bit like my general style - all literary and poetic and then random decidedly non-poetic dialogue, lol.
OMG!!!! "He made her forget she was a Communist!" I admit, that one was getting a little trigger-y, but that line made up for it.
So I saw your tweets about your computer - any news?

I just read this blog - hilarious (of course I think Kathy Lette's is 'supposed' to be funny - so I'm not sure if she's being purposefully bad for humour purposes, but I still laughed!)

Stacy: No news yet. Hubby is getting something from a colleague to help test the computer before we send off for parts. We're pretty sure it's the power source that blew, and we've already picked a replacement to order. We won't know what else might have been damaged until we get it installed. If we need to replace the computer, I don't know how long it will be before we can do it comfortably....and given that I still don't have a job yet and money is tight, we are reluctant to make bigger purchases as easily as we would have a few months ago. Kiri: I'm not familiar with most of the work on that blog. I'm sure a lot of it is made even more outlandish simply because it is taken out of context. Though...some of it....wow, LOL.

So....one thing I'd planned to start doing was to create "covers" for each chapter (new chapters--not going back and creating them for old ones). What am I talking about? I'm thinking of comic books here.... in a lot of series these days, artists will go crazy with the covers of the books--sometimes creating several. They usually do have some relation to the story within, but sometimes they are just very inventive reimaginings of the characters in a completely different context. I've always loved seeing these, and when Lunar had a photo shoot for her one-year celebration post using clothing and sets that she'd never otherwise get to use in her story, I thought it looked like so much fun. There are lots of things that will never show up in my story, and it would be a fun way to use some of the objects and clothing at least some of the time. Plus, it would give me more freedom to play with some of the other photo editing features (which is always fun). Now I just need my computer to stop being broken....I'm so excited!

I remember reading a legacy created with TS3 that used a comic-book style format for updates, and it was amazing! Then the author moved to Alaska and never picked it back up after the move. But if I started doing covers, I'd get to do more things like this! And that was so much fun! Stupid computer, being all broke and stuff....

So I've been thinking a lot about some of the major plot lines in my story, and I started making a more detailed outline in LSB so that I could figure out what needed to happen when, because I've been imagining a lot of scenes completely out of order lately. I have to go ahead and write them down so that I don't forget them, and also because it helps me stop obsessing over them so much. But I also did it to get an idea of how many stories I'd need to write for this series...... And it's looking like it's approximately eight. Holy crap. I hope my readers are very patient people.

Ha! I say awesome all the time... Note, that's eight total--I've done two and I'm approximately halfway done with the third now. Maybe it doesn't sound like all that much when I think about it that way.... Nah, it's still a lot. And that's not even firm. It might go beyond that. I can't really see it shrinking, because a lot of stuff has to happen. But you never know.... And the thing is, that's not even....ah hell, I'd better shut up before I give too much away.

That's weird...I could have sworn I saw a reply to Kiri's question in my thread from Stacy......but when I came back, it was gone. Am I hallucinating? Well...in case something ate that post, I'll go ahead and answer! Kiri, LSB is a writing program named Liquid Story Binder. TheLunarFox brought it up in a thread somewhere on here when it went on sale one day because she'd been using it herself for a while and found it very useful. It took me a bit to figure out how to use it, but once I did it really helped! While it can be a bit complex, what is really nice about it is that there's really no wrong way to use it, and you can adapt it to your writing style and writing needs. I'll try to find that thread, because we were just all about the LSB for a straight week or two, lol....
