For my current sims stories, as they are either based on gameplay challenges or they're short ideas rather than high concept stuff, then I think about the stories and characters a lot, but don't make many paper notes; only if I think of something I'll want to use later, in which case I write it down on the nearest bit of paper.
For writing in general, I use a mixture of notebooks and typing; notebooks for notes, ideas, thoughts, brainstorming, typing for actually writing. This goes for fiction and factual although I mainly write the latter these days.

I do remember the last time I typed something in this thread I stated that I should show you all a page of my notebook....well I bring you two instead. Moderate, bad handwriting...you can't really tell from the blur, but tragically bad handwriting. High risk of people thinking I have an eyeball fetish. Seriously, this is really like a diary entry telling me I was bored with the topic.

I'm an extremely finicky writer. There are times when I cannot get anything done story-wise on a computer and have to write everything down by hand and there are times when I can't get anything done writing by hand and have to type it out.
Usually, I hand write all notes about characters and type out plot outlines. When it comes to writing out a story itself, I tend to go between writing things out and typing regularly.
When I have to write things out, I also get very picky about whether I print or write in cursive. There are times when I can only get my thoughts out by writing in print and there are times when I can only get my thoughts out by writing in cursive. There are also times when I can only write things out in pencil and times when I can only write in pen.
Needless to say, I'm very...strange when it comes to writing.

I write everything on the computer. I have coordination issues, so writing by hand is difficult for me, and gets frustrating quickly. Plus I think better when I'm typing.
The exception is that if I need to jot down a quick note, I'll write it on a post-it note and type it up later.
When I write by hand, I always write in cursive. I've always found it easier than printing, and it's faster too.
