I think it could be cool if we made a challenge/just for play for themes. For example, let's see what you can do with isolated, a very popular theme in books nowadays. You make the characters (or use characters you already have) and create the situation in which the chosen theme represents. What do you think? Sims or plain prose.

Ha, funny you should say that, I have a play challenge/story I work on from time to time which is exactly about this. When I have time to finish it I'll be putting it up. It'll probably be next month some time.

I could probably do this with my Sims, it would be an interesting jumping off point

Well, that's great, Rad! For some reason I had entered your mind. Don't pay attention to me. All I ask is that you at least don't step on me. ;D heredoncove: It could help some writers/storytellers get their zing back if they've had writer's block or no form of enthusiasm.

That's a great idea mdpthatsme. Are there time limits, set to monthly?? I can't do anything until December anyway but thought I'd ask.

carnaxa: sorry, I haven't really been online lately umm, well, right now I was just seeing if people wanted to do a theme challenge. We can take a vote for monthly challenges, if you want? Or we could just have separate posts for themes that way new members can add to them later? Like--writing prompts? What do you think?

I love prompts. The idea of having a monthly prompt and a "database" of other writing prompts would be great. When I need prompts, I usually consult prompt lists that are used mainly by fanfiction writers. My favorite is the '1000 themes list'. It has some interesting (at least to me) ones like 'At What Cost?', 'Better Left Unsaid', and others. I would post a link here, but the site is offline and all I have is a printout. I could type out the prompts if anyone would like me to, though. (I was thinking of doing this anyway since my printout is pretty old and is falling apart.)

See what everyone else wants first I think.
Prompts are great although my prompt writing tends to be more drabble-ish than anything else. My brain is fried at the moment.

So votes? Do we want to do prompts? Or monthly theme challenges?

I'm fine with either one.
I just noticed the 'isolated' challenge in the first post. I'll be right on it. There has been a story floating around in my head that definitely fits the theme.

I'm about halfway through shooting the 'isolated' one - will probably be able to get it up late December.

I like the idea of having separate threads for each theme, that we could just do when we get around to them, or whenever they spark our interest, rather than monthly. I'm never able to get to the monthly challenges on time, because I usually have a good month's worth of stories already set up. Like this "isolated" theme - I love it, and I definitely have a character and story that fits, but I won't be getting around to it for a month or two still :\

So.......writing prompts that way each theme can have its separate thread for us to write and create when we want to? If so, this is the Isolated Theme Prompt. And, I look forward to reading your stories.

I'm finally sharing. So here's my attempt at isolation.
She lay there in the dark. The door locked, curtains shut, the expensive lights off. She couldn’t hear a thing. Silence. Complete and utter devastating silence. The one thing she craved since she was a child. The whole house to herself. Now it was a prison. No need to lay an extra place at the dinner table. The uneaten meals just thrown away. Yet she still made them, just in case. Just in case they ever forgave her. What use was a mansion, a cabinet full of trophies, and the finest things money could buy if she had no one to share it with. Completely alone. The flashes at the gate had disappeared. At least they wouldn’t find out. Discover why they had all abandoned her.
They didn’t understand. She had done this to protect them. To provide them with a magical, fairytale life. The movie premiers, awards ceremonies, parties and presents to make even the richest Sim jealous. He had been there, her mother hadn’t. Too obsessed with her work; if you could call it that. Father was just a waste of space. They had never lacked for lover her children, even when their father’s had all passed on. Had abandoned them. Abandoned her. Just like they all had now. There had been so many good times. Just one little secret; a miniscule piece of acting that made them all leave her alone. In her big old lonely house. Isolated. Just like her parents had wanted. Like she had preferred. Until now.
They hadn’t even sent called, sent a postcard, a text an email. The fish had all died long ago. There wasn’t a bird to be heard, no wind whistling, or even rain tapping. There was just the silence, and the darkness.
Never light a fire on your own. Never swim in the dark. Never fix anything. Never skip a meal. Never stare into space. Never go to the Plasma Lounge.
Certainly never do all of the above. She hadn’t broken the rules. People around her had. Maybe she should. It would stop the darkness. It would fight the nothing. Maybe it would bring them back to her. At least for one day, a few hours. Something. Before the never-ending black silent nothing.

Wow! You are so good at both comedy and at really creepy stuff. I've no idea how you can do both so well.

Thankyou.
My head is only dark. But then I was shocked when you thought Daisies had gone creepy, and I've never intentionally written any comedy.
