I'm cross-posting this at N99, in the hope that someone either here or there can help me.
Last night, I was attempting to open my hood folder when my mouse slipped and I accidentally moved some files into my other hood folder. I tried to undo but it must have been too late, as when I opened my hood this morning, it was empty. No lots, no Sims. All the hood deco was in place but none of the stuff I actually need to play!
So I went back to my most recent back-up. I loaded it and had the same problem - completely empty, no lots, no Sims. I don't know why the back-up wouldn't have worked but I'm kind of worried. I seem to be able to do everything in game as normal, except when I try to leave a lot to go back to the hood, the icon is the tutorial hood icon (building blocks) and I get the tutorial hood menu pop up over my regular hood menu. I have no idea what this means.
I just loaded up SimPE and I can see that all my Sims are still there. I'm currently extracting them all, just in case remaking everybody is the only way I can get this fixed. But if I don't have to do that, I really would prefer not to. Is there something else I could try?

Ugh, that would be torture to have to remake everybody! I hope someone can help.
Do you have any older backups? Have you checked your recycle bin for any? That was how I saved my couple of lots recently, I found an old deleted backup from December in my recycle bin that I was able to restore and use.

I actually have a ton of older back-ups. I wonder if one of those would work...I'll try just about anything at this point!

OK, putting my back-up into a clean folder (made by renaming the Sims 2 folder). I'm discussing it with a couple of people at N99 and the consensus seems to be that the neighbourhood manager probably stuffed up somehow. I'm guessing it changed itself once it couldn't find the right files when I load the hood, because I didn't touch the folder that file is in.
Sigh. Anyway, fixed! So happy!

Thank goodness. Back-ups to the rescue again!

So glad you were able to fix it! What a horrible feeling, thinking you'd lost your whole hood...

I'm so relieved! I'm in game right now and everything appears to be normal.
I wouldn't have lost the Sims at least but what I was really dreading was having to rebuild and redecorate all those lots! Especially the primary school, which I am so, so happy with. This might be a catalyst for me to actually back that up to a package file!

So what happened in the end? Did you get the hood to work, or are you playing a backup?

I'm pretty sure the neighbourhood manager in the original hood is what was broken, so that's done with. I have no idea how to fix that, or if it's even possible.
So I'm playing a backup but it's a very recent one, thank goodness! I back up at the end of each season and I'd only played one family so far this season. So I had to catch that family up and redecorate a house I'd decorated the night before (glad I took pictures!). I'm all caught up now and playing as normal. Yay!

I know this is an old post but I'll add to it anyways... My main character in my "Sunday Sims" Veronica is remade...I had done the "Sunday Sims" before. I used to send it through e-mail to friends and family and I had 28 chapters. My hard drive and mother board fried...every thing lost...5 years worth, gone. I was not going to remake Veronica...afraid to lose her again...I made her on accident...identical!!! I am glad for you that it all was able to be saved
