Last night I discovered a glitch in my game... community lots won't load. By removing the downloads folder I confirmed it was CC related, so this morning I'm going through that slow annoying process of returning my CC in bits to try to determine the cause of the problem - put back some CC, load game, go though game/hood/lot loadups (*sigh*), send same sim to same community lot, works fine, exit game, put back some more CC... etc, etc...
Some strange things have happened during the process... firstly, I have the Community Lot Time hack. Usually, when a sim from the lot I'm playing is away on a community lot, a little message-thing appears in the top corner, with a picture of a walking sign, but no words. During one of my reloads, the message said what time the sim was due back. Maybe its supposed to do that all the time and I had some other CC that stopped it, I don't know, but it was kind of cool and I hope I can make it stay. For anyone else using this hack, do you get words on the message or not?
Second strange thing: During one attempt to send the sim to the community lot, the screen didn't transition to the usual walking-to-community-lot loading screen (blue squares, stick figure, etc), it transitioned to neighbourhood view. The words "Where do you want to go" were superimposed over the top of the screen and the cursor changed into a little taxi! I had already directed her to go to a particular lot in the usual way, at her home lot. Has anyone else had this happen?? I've never seen it in all the time I've been playing.
Even with these changes, I still haven't found out what's stopping the lots from loading - even with the extra neighbourhood screen, the sim still got to the community lot after I clicked on it with the taxi cursor... *sigh*... still loading, loading, loading...

I hope you're able to fix the problem. My sister had the same issue when she played TS2 and she never figured it out. She moved onto TS3 before she tried too hard though.
Instead of returning your CC in bits, try using the half and half method. Put in half your CC, if the lots work, you'll know the problem is in the other half. Then halve that, etc. etc. It's still tedious but you'll find the file a lot faster.
The "where do you want to go?" screen used to pop up with just the base game. They changed it with uni to the menu that you're probably more for familiar with. How weird that it popped up for you again. I think it has happened to me before though, once. I forget why but I'd assume it was some kind of outdated hack.

Thanks... it was cc-related and thanks for the advice about the half-half thing... it cut down the time with the remaining cc. Have decided to create a 'quarantine' folder in my downloads folder. All new cc will go in there and stay there for a month or so... that way, should a similar problem occur, there's a very good chance the thing at fault will still be in the quarantine folder and much quicker to identify. I got the base game and uni at the same time, so I never saw that "Where do you want to go" screen before... would have been annoying, an extra load screen to wait through. Now that all my cc is back, the words are gone from my community lot time message... maybe I'll play around with finding what caused that to change... someday... not right now

I'm glad you sorted it out! The old load screen wasn't so bad when we had, because I didn't know what I was missing but I'd hate to go back to it now. I know what all my lots are called so I can scroll to them easily in a list but I often can't find them on my hood map!
Wish I could help you with your community time lot thing but I've never tried that hack.

Oh, how strange about your community time hack. I don't know that I'd be able to help you though, because even though I have community time, and it's working fine, we probably have so many other different hacks between our two games that it could be anything causing the problem :\
I'm glad you've got it functional again though.
I've been quarantining new files for some time now, for a slightly related reason - but this is an awesome reason too! I called mine an "incoming" folder. I started it because I'd go on downloading sprees, and then get into the game and find some of the stuff doesn't look so great in play as it did in previews. Then I'd want to take it out, but if I put a piece of clothing into my clothing folder, it gets immediately sucked into the bottomless abyss, lol!

Damn, you guys are organised! I never quarantine my new stuff, lol. If I find I don't like something, I just delete it in CAS (really annoys me that we can't delete make-up and accessories in CAS any more).

delphy's download organizer allows you to delete those items outside of CAS. That's annoying that we can't do that in CAS anymore.

No problem, I just deleted the other thing that was causing the problem... I've only had community lot time a couple of months, but I'd delete almost anything to keep it because I can't imagine playing without it now... no more having to lock sims in rooms because they're supposed to not be back home yet!

I'm terrified to delete anything in CAS now... I once deleted what I thought was a bunch of cc - and I'm sure I wouldn't have deleted anything without the cc star - but I managed to somehow remove all the Freetime clothes and hairstyles... all my hobby leaders changed looks, as did a bunch of my own sims, but the funniest part was Mr Humble running around bald! I fixed it by uninstalling then reinstalling Freetime (removed my hood folder then replaced it when the reinstall was done), but I haven't had the nerve to delete anything in CAS since...

"Bottomless abyss"... lol... so true! Especially when the files have random letters and numbers for names rather than something descriptive. But another reason this quarantine folder is going to be useful.
BTW, Laura, I forgot to add to the previous post... with community lot time, there's that little notification with the signpost that comes up at the top when someone is away... in your game, is it blank or does it say when they'll be back or something?

It's not supposed to be blank. Mine says what time they're due back, and how many hours away that is.

Thanks - that's what I saw, briefly, when I was doing the remove/replace some CC thing... up until then I didn't even realize it was supposed to say anything. Will have to experiment with this more at some stage. Other than that, the hack appears to work exactly as intended. BTW love your little dental hygiene icon thing
