I'm very glad that you're getting better at reading replies and comments. It's a slow process, but I'm glad you're seeing that none of the people here or in the secret place would ever post anything to intentionally hurt you or tear you down. We all think you're the bees knees!

Last night, we were talking about things. Because here, we have empathy with other humans and are somewhat concerned when the world is burning. I know, it's weird. Anyway, during the course of discussion, I saw the root of my problems with Grace. Kohlberg's Stages of Moral DevelopmentI think she's around stage 4. I came out of the womb at stage 6. John says that he's in the middle and can understand parts of both of us, so maybe he's stage 5. This is only one of many developmental stage theories I've researched, but they're all basically the same. And Grace and I are very much at different stages. Might make a thread about this in IRL.

Just said to John - "I need a tl;dr version of Das Kapital. Trying to educate the chilluns through my LiveJournal." Or, you know - a tl;dr version of that big gray Fascists book you can see in the pics of my library would also work. Actually - *goes to shelves* Oh, what fun. My reading list is now - Pedagogy of the Oppressed, The Communist Manifesto, and Fascists. Once in high school I checked out Mein Kampf, The Communist Manifesto, and The Prince all at the same time. Good thing that was pre Patriot Act. Although you do hear glorious stories of librarians burning their records.

ALDONZA Why do you do these things? DON QUIXOTE What things?
ALDONZA These ridiculous... the things you do!
DON QUIXOTE I hope to add some measure of grace to the world.
ALDONZA The world's a dung heap and we are maggots that crawl on it!
DON QUIXOTE My Lady knows better in her heart.
ALDONZA What's in my heart will get me halfway to hell. And you, Señor Don Quixote-you're going to take such a beating!
DON QUIXOTE Whether I win or lose does not matter.
ALDONZA What does?
DON QUIXOTE Only that I follow the quest.
ALDONZA (spits) That for your Quest! (turns, marches away; stops, turns bock and asks, awkwardly) What does that mean... quest?
DON QUIXOTE It is the mission of each true knight... His duty... nay, his privilege! To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go; To right the unrightable wrong.
To love, pure and chaste, from afar, To try, when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star!
This is my Quest to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far, To fight for the right Without question or pause, To be willing to march into hell For a heavenly cause!
And I know, if I'll only be true To this glorious Quest, That my heart will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest.
And the world will be better for this, That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove, with his last ounce of courage, To reach the unreachable stars!

I am posting this here because I do not want it hidden. The fascist bill was passed in Wisconsin today. crooksandliars.com/karoli/violent-legislation-wisconsins-gop-power-grI also read about another bill, in Michigan. It gives the governor a right to declare an economic emergency and appoint a person (which can be a corporation, since they are legally people) who has the power to pretty much do anything. Dissolve school boards, fire elected officials, etc. www.democracynow.org/2011/3/9/naomi_klein_on_anti_union_bills"It says that in the case of an economic crisis, that the governor has the authority to authorize the emergency manager—this is somebody who would be appointed—to reject, modify or terminate the terms of an existing contract or collective bargaining agreement, authorize the emergency manager for a municipal government—OK, so we’re not—we’re talking about towns, municipalities across the state—to disincorporate. So, an appointed official with the ability to dissolve an elected body, when they want to." Fascism is rule by corporations. Do not even tell me that I can't call this fascist, because that is exactly what it is. I have known the direction we were going for a long time. But now it's real. Now it's real, and I am utterly and completely shattered, and I'm not eating, and I have a horrible headache and John just brought me headache medicine, all tender like, and now he's trying to force me to eat, but.... This is directed at the Americans reading this. It is absolutely immoral to be silent right now. You don't have to get up right now and go on strike. But you should at least be thinking. Informing yourself. Talking to friends and family. Unless you really want a future where we're pretty much slaves to corporations and we work for them until we die. Which will be much earlier than we're used to doing - no health care, lots more stress, etc. Remember how it was in the 1800s? Before unions? With the child labor and the unsafe conditions and the deaths and the life that was incredibly sucky and hard? Yeah, that's what they want. If you want to do something and you have the money to spare, you can donate to the Wisconsin strike fund. afl.salsalabs.com/o/4002/wi-responseAnd as long as you guys refuse to talk about this, I am on strike against my own forum. LOL.

Stacy, I hope you actually read this and I hope this doesn't sound either angry or patronizing, because it isn't meant to be either.
First of all, I don't remember anyone telling you that this wasn't fascist, so I don't think it's fair of you to assume that somebody will.
Secondly, people are more informed than they might seem. I heard last night that the bill had passed, and that did piss me off because A) I don't support the bill and B) the means by which it was passed were underhanded and unsettling. Personally, I am hoping that the move will be ruled as unconstitutional and the bill won't become law after all.
So yes, we are informed and yes, we are thinking. But silence isn't necessarily acceptance. Silence can be biding time. Silence can be trying to pick up the pieces of one's own life before trying to change the world. Now, I can't for sure speak for everyone here but from what I can tell, a lot of us are going through some difficult times right now--death, divorce, work stress, school stress, health woes, etcetera--and sometimes, people just have to deal with their own crap and watch from the sidelines while those with the spoons for it fight the battle.
And you know what? Once a person gets their life in order, they can get into the fray, and with more drive and energy than they would have been able to spend had they not worked out their own issues first. A lot of people in Wisconsin felt strongly about the bill and threw a lot of effort into their protests and that's good, but chances are that a lot of them joined a little later in the game so they could enter on a stronger foot.
And help can also come from unexpected places. Art, for example--writing included--can really change the way people see the world, give them a perspective they might not have considered before. So, once I get my life in order, I'm going to crack down on my socio-political novel, while trying to hone my skills by using my Sim stories as practice. I'm not very charismatic and I'm not good with people and I wouldn't be useful in a protest, but I like to think that if I try hard enough, I might be able to write.
It's not that people are "refusing to talk about this". It's not that they're sticking their heads in the sand or driving their fingers into their ears and singing off-key. Sometimes, people just have to deal with their short-term concerns before they can fight for the long-term ones. I'm glad that you feel so passionate about this, but you have to understand that just not debating this or discussing it in depth doesn't mean we're treating this with acceptance or even apathy--and in all honesty, I'm a little insulted that you think we're the sort of people who just don't care.
Sometimes, there's just a little too much going on and it's okay to want to talk about other things.
