Just a quick question... thought someone here might have the answer...
I planned to start on my 'New Richmond' remake of my aging hood today... Richmond started out as Pleasantview, and there's a Pleasantview terrain that comes with the game, so, easy, right?
Wrong. The terrain labelled Pleasantview that comes with the game isn't the same terrain as the Pleasantview hood (ie N001 hood) - from what I have read online, its an earlier version, but Maxis changed it for the actual populated hood. My hood would have to be quite different if I used the blank terrain provided with the game, and I'd like to keep it as close as possible to the one I've been playing.
First I thought I could just add another actual Pleasantview - there aren't that many characters and they've all been in my game anyway (or still are, like Brandi Broke/Green) at some point... but then I remembered that I'd also get generations of their ancestors to clog up my new hood.
Does anyone know if I can download the 'real' Pleasantview terrain somewhere (I've checked MTS2 & TSR - no luck), or a safe way to delete everyone from a copy of N001 and leave just the blank hood... or is it possible to export the terrain from a 'live' hood to create a copy?
I guess if I can't, I'll go with the 'ancestors and all' Pleasantview, but it would be good to start with as few characters as possible.

I'm pretty sure that I did see an empty Pleasantview over at MATY, but it's down right now. I think I saw Pescasdo mention somewhere that they were getting DDOS'ed, so who knows how long it might be down.
But I think it was in the thread where they talk about clean hoods. I'm pretty sure Aragon was the name of the person who uploaded the ultra clean Pleasantview so you could actually use N001, and there would be no characters at all.
If not, I think there is a way to export the terrain, but once again, that tutorial is over at MATY.

Have you tried looking through MTS2's pages or another forum? Some of the same creators post in multiple sites.

Thanks guys, you're great - again!
I'll have a look around and see if I can find the creator or instructions elsewhere; if not I'll just wait for MATY - as my original hood is revived for now, I've got a bit of time to spend on this. It sounds like I'll be able to get exactly what I want, one way or another.

I suggest HoodReplace (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=279992&c=1&ht=0&page=1&pp=25#startcomments). I've used it successfully to copy both the terrain and the neighborhood decor, without the characters.

Oh, wow...!!! Sb, thank you! ... and even better, this includes the N001/Pleasantview terrain! I've started my new-old hood now... it has all of 5 lots so far, but its a start I love being able to transfer over all the neighbourhood decorations, it gives a kind of 'skeleton' to the hood, ready to fill out with the lots. I'm starting with community lots, then unoccupied houses... will transport the occupied houses (without occupants, of course), last, as I recreate the families. Interesting trivia... with all the EPs/SPs, but NO subhoods (vacation/downtown/uni/Bluewater), an 'empty' hood already has 390 character in it!! This would be townies/NPC's/Apartment neighbours/pets... all in just the base hood. Will be interesting to see how many there are when I attach the subhoods! All the bin families are there, too... I didn't realise they come with each hood you add... like a few of the Pleasantview townies/NPCs, they're already in Richmond and will only need to be aged/relationships recreated/etc to move into the new hood. But, wow, no wonder EA had to change that 1000-or-so character limit.

If MATY gets back up soon you can grab a clean Pleasantview which doesn't have all of the characters, so you can keep your character files down.

Believe it or not, that 390 is without characters! At least, without playable characters... its all the townies/NPCs/strays/apartment neighbours, etc, etc that the various EPs add... and that's without any sub-hoods, so I still have downtownies/vacation and uni folks to come. I wouldn't be surprised if it came close to the old 1000 limit.

Yea, I know. MATY has hacks that prevents the game from generating all those things. My hood was bare when I started. It only has my characters and just generates NPC when needed and without doubles.
I think there is a thread that tells you how to do everything and you have to make sure you get a clean version if you want to use any of the already made subhoods like Downtown or Twikki Island.

Ah - I forgot about those hacks - the notownierespawn and antiredundancy (NPC) ones, right? (There was also one to stop strays respawning but I had to take that out as I think I ran out of strays completely - the game kept throwing errors looking for stray animals that weren't there.) Thanks for the reminder. I have the antiredundancy one in my game now so I don't get too many NPC's, but I took the townie one out, as I like some 'new blood' when my townies become playable or whatever... and also like the randomness of the game creating them, rather than rely on my own limited imagination to create my own townies. Am thinking about this... on one hand, it could be nice to start 'clean', but I'm recreating a hood I've been playing for almost 2 r/l years now, and a lot of the original townies/etc have become playable in my game. I wouldn't have to recreate those sims in the new version - just age up their counterparts/recreate relationships etc. I wanted to keep the playable Pleasantview people out as (aside from two who I will be recreating) they are all deceased/non-playable in my hood and their hordes of ancesters aren't relevant anymore either (just as I won't be recreating any of my own deceased sims). There are going to be a lot less characters in my new hood just because I'm doing it 'properly' this time - my old hood is full of extra unnecessary characters due to my own mistakes (adding/removing multiple universities (the game kept the characters), accidently adding two Twikki Islands at one point (two of every tropical vacation townie... *facepalm*), deleting characters before I knew it was bad)... while it won't do any of that again, it also proves that a hood works reasonably ok even with over 2000(!) sometimes-corrupt character files cluttering it up. Hmmmmm... might just use the hack to reduce the number of townies overall, but not make it completely empty - let the hood generate the sims as the game intended, put the hack in, make the townies who are playable in the old hood, playable in the new one, take the hack out. That means the number of townies will be reduced by the number I made playable (ie the game won't replace them with the hack in), but as others become playable in future, they will be replaced (with the hack out). I think. Am going to ponder over this one a bit more Thaks for more food for thought.

No problem! I haven't had a problem with townies yet mostly because I usually take any Sims other ppl offer up for DL that look interesting and make them townies.
I wanted a totally bare neighborhood so it all worked out for me. Everyone has different methods.
