So I don't like the way full text looks on my current theme, and I'm thinking of changing it. ZOMG.
Rachel, I know you changed yours recently - do you keep your custom header when you change it or do I have to upload it again? Eh - probably time for a new header anyway.
Also, do you keep all your widgets and stuff?
The Twenty Ten theme looks pretty good at the moment - I have three other WordPress blogs and I posted 10.06 on one to play with the themes. But I'm lazy and don't want to upload custom headers and play with widgets for them and see what happens when I change the theme.

It depends on how similar the layouts are to start with. The headers will be removed though and need to be re-done. The widgets settings will stay saved, but depending on how the layouts sidebars are pre-set as will depend on which ones stay when you first switch over. So if you want to make sure their settings are saved to make it quicker make the blog comforable just drag the widgets into the inactive widget box so their setting as saved and you just ahve to redrag them over and into the right position.

Ah, thank you! I am looking for a similar theme - I like the layout of mine and it's served me well for over a year. And yeah - I guess that's a sign that I need a new header.

I didn't have a custom header with the Ed Prescott blog, so I don't know about that. As far as widgets and everything else, I tried to make sure everything that showed up on my previous blog showed up on the new one in the preview (I don't really do all that much...). My biggest headache was actually something you won't need to worry about--I needed flexible-width columns. There aren't many Wordpress themes (free ones) with those....

Because your pictures are all big? I wish I'd done that with Valley. But oh well. So I've changed the theme now - used a pic John took on the trip to Stone Mountain last year as the header and also made a dark gray background. Now I'm playing around with TypeKit to see about fonts.

I've never worked in Wordpress, so I can't offer any assistance on the themes. However you might want to take care with how creative you get with fonts. The fancier the font, the less likely your reader has it installed on their computer which means they will just see a basic default typeface instead (something like georgia or times new roman for serif fonts, arial or verdana for sans serif). Thank you. I'm not even sure if it worked, but I just picked a serif font that was recommended for easy reading of longer text. Very much going for the idea of easy readability here.

Yep, yep, had to do that because my pics are so big. When I started my legacy blog, I had a fixed-width theme and my pics had to stay pretty small. I got jealous of this one guy's legacy blog because his pictures were huge, and they were soooo good. So, when I started the Edith Prescott blog, I made sure to pick a theme that allowed me to make the pics fairly large. I like your new theme....and the picture is very very nice.
