I missing someone. When I first met him, he used to be around all the time, in my face, wouldn’t leave me alone, yelled and screamed about what he wanted, etc. Over time, he stopped yelling and just talked me to death about where he wanted to go and who he wanted to go there with. Then I met someone else, someone who was only supposed to be an acquaintance, stopping by for a brief moment to fill in a blank, that in retrospect could’ve been left blank for a while. This new guy was loud, boisterous, and he strong-armed his way to the forefront completely overshadowing the first guy. Never one to play second fiddle, the first guy stopped talking to me completely and just went on his way to his desired destination. In my fascination with the new guy I didn’t see which way the old guy went and now he’s standing there, in the place he wanted to be, waiting for me to catch up; and I don’t have a clue how to get to him.
How has this happened? How did I let some fly-by-night swoop in and completely take over this story in ways that I never imagined? How am I ever going to find my old guy? Oh I know where he is, he’s just sitting there throwing back shots, tanning on the beach, looking at his watch and getting pissed that I haven’t shown up yet, but just like a man, he offers up no solutions on how we can wind up on the same page. I’m losing him, I can feel it, and I don’t want to. I know the path to get to him is close by and I have to push through this block to get there, but I’ve been pushing for a while now and I’m getting very concerned that I won’t be able to make it before he fades away completely.
I know this probably makes no sense as there is very little context to go on, but I am in grave danger of losing a character that I love dearly and I’m freaking out about it. It also sucks that I start a thread to babble about a story that I’m quickly failing to tell properly. I’m desperate right now. What does one do when they lose touch with a character or at least how to get a character to the desired place in the story? Anybody?

What an absolutely fascinating question! There are some characters who suck up all the air in the room and won't get offstage. I think I know what you're talking about, who you're talking about.
Give First Guy something important to do. He seems to have something important to do, always did. Once you understand what that is, you can give him room to do it and let him take back his place all on his own.
Second Guy is always going to be the charmer LOL! Get used to it and enjoy!

Oh no, that makes perfect sense to me. I'm always scared of the same thing happening.
Maybe part of the trick is letting go a little? I like Beth's idea of giving the character something to do. Then give it time and see what happens.

Thank you Beth. Yes that second guy is really something else. I created a monster with him and he is sucking up all the air here. The first guy does have something important to do but I keep pushing it further and further back and honestly I don't have a reason to do that other than because the second guy is hogging the spotlight.
I'm glad you put it that way, makes me realize that I've been compartmentalizing first guy's "important thing" into seperate boxes or "episodes" and I really don't need to. In the end he serves one important purpose and he needs to start actively doing that.
Thank you, you've given me quite a bit to think about.

Lunar, letting go is another good point. For the past few months I've been clutching this "problem" like a rabid dog. Obessessing over how it became a problem, why the first guy isn't essentially "speaking" to me anymore. I suppose he's just been waiting for me to stop holding him back and let him do his thing full force. He is an all or nothing person. He's also spoiled and jealous and he's probably doing it to punish me as well. Thank you

Have you ever gotten in over your head? Saw something in your mind's eye that seemed so great, would be so cool if you could pull it off. So you set out to achieve this awesomeness. You've got a plan, you know it will work, you see it working, you go forward. You start on your task, you get to a certain point and you realize that all of your planning and plotting isn't so planned and plotted. You run into a snag, and then another, and another and you realize that you success with this endeavor all comes down to this one thing you never thought that you would need. And now, as you tirelessly search through clutter list after clutter list looking for this thing that you need to do something with, you realize that you are sinking below the tide and your vision is sinking with you. How could all that creative energy be thwarted by this one elusive stupid piece of clutter? How could this be?
I say all this to say...does anyone know where I can find a scarf that ist strictly decor?

Hummm.... this is a scarf that just lies on a table or something? I can have a look for you if you like.
Is it a scarf that lies flat, or scrunched? Do you have a particular colour or pattern you're thinking of?

I need a scarf that will lay flat on a table; if it is a little tiny bit scrunched that's okay. I am trying to recolor it so it can be any color really. I've looked everywhere I can think of (GOS Clutter list, BPS, etc.) and can't find what I'm looking for. If you happen upon anything I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you Kiri!

Oh - while I think about it - are you ok with me sending you a mesh if the website doesn't exist anymore? I've got a lot of stuff from when TS2 first started (I tended to download every site I found. I've got close on 165G of stuff on my SIMS archive harddrive and that's just TS1 and TS2.
Oh and edit....
If you can't find a specifically scarf shaped mesh as deco... have you thought about using a tablecloth mesh, and alpha-editing out the parts that you don't want to see? That would work pretty well.
Then with move_objects on, and omsp's you could pretty much place it anywhere.

Hi Kiri. I am totally fine with an object from a site that is out of commission, at this point I'll take whatever I can get. Some else mentioned alpha editing, which I've never done before, so I'll have to find a tutorial on that somewhere, but like I said, I am down for whatever at this point. THANK YOU!!

Alpha-editing is actually quite easy. um... I can knock up a tute for you if you can't find one.
I have turned search on. It will take a while - but I'll get back to you on it.
EDIT:
You have email to your gmail account.
I've sent you about 6 different scarf meshes, all decorative objects not clothing.
Also a couple of links to places where you may get more.

So finally, after damn near two years and only 23 chapters, season one of Life, Love, & Lies is begining to wrap up. I'm coming very close to making my belaboured point and arrving at the collective turning point that will punctuate the end of this story arc. I'm happy about that. What bothers me is the fact that it has taken so long to get here. True, I did take a big time out, reflect on things, and I did scrap a large part of what I was going to do in favor of what I'm doing now. And I will also concede that my learning curve in terms of the production of each episode was a major factor in the delays. But two years (okay fine, a year and half)? Eighteen months of this same situation? I'm surprised that anyone is still reading this story anymore given the slow pacing. If it was a television show it would've been cancelled long ago. I want to do better than this. I have to do better than this. Thank you to all of you who have stuck with me, whether I know you or not, whether you've commented or not, I know you are there and I appreciate you more than you'll ever know. I promise I will make every effort to update more frequently and not keep you waiting for so long between episodes. And I further promise that Season Two is going to be well worth staying around for.
