Oh yay! This was awesome! Why on earth would you laugh about having a fanbase, lol! You're about to have a much bigger one soon, I'm sure of it! (Especially once I start pimping your books all over the internet?... Mwahahahahaha! ) I love the bit about romantic relationships, and I totally get that! And awww, I'm honored that LH inspired you so much! But you are a true literary talent in your own right - I saw that even back in your Tierra de Legado stories. Your grasp of character development is amazing, your vivid (and dark) details, so many layers of depth and meaning, and natural storytelling prowess is all so inspiring to me as well! (Oh, and the sex scenes - to die for!!!) Questions: - What Ruin storyline that we haven't read yet are you most excited about sharing? - Do you have any plans for the characters back in Tierra de Legado? - Who is your favorite of the X-Men? - If you had a superpower, what would it be? - Have you ever counted all the characters you have, through all the different Ruin stories? How many are there? And do you still find new characters, even after all the years you've been working with the stories? I may come back with more questions later!

Aww Laura. Thanks. I appreciate the support immensely. We're watching Gurran Lagaan on the Sy Fy channel, so I feel that I must say, "I believe in the you that believes in me." - What Ruin storyline that we haven't read yet are you most excited about sharing? All of them? I think that's the most frustrating thing. I can't work on all the storylines, but I have so many, so I need to finish things now, lol. I still have Angel and Mitchell's story, and Brandon and Pat's. Oh I know. Rita, and what she thinks about what happened on the day Jimmy's father died. - Do you have any plans for the characters back in Tierra de Legado? No. Poor guys. I do mean to go back to it. There were some things that ended up crossing over without my intent. Whatever I'm planning on doing hasn't hit me yet, but it's there in the back of my head. - Who is your favorite of the X-Men? lol! I barely managed to narrow my stories down to just three! Okay, I like most of them for different reasons. Rogue is so tragic with her ability to love deeply, but never touch another person. Plus, she absorbs the memories of people she touches, so she has memories of touching and doing things that she's never actually done herself. Cyclops, they show him starting out as something of a nerd and gradually growing into his role as leader. Nightcrawler is an interesting mix of contradictions- he's very religious, but also very silly with a love of Errol Flynn (something they don't play up anymore 'cause you know, it's been like 40 years since they used that detail), and he's got a deep serious side that shows when he needs to be serious. See what I mean? They all have so much potential for great stories and different reasons I love them I can't pick. - If you had a superpower, what would it be? I'd love to be able to control the wind, but I am really scared of heights, so I'd just want it so that I could always have a fan even on hot days. - Have you ever counted all the characters you have, through all the different Ruin stories? How many are there? And do you still find new characters, even after all the years you've been working with the stories? You know, I've never counted. That might be interesting, because I also count a lot of the side characters as characters too since they all have their own stories. And oh yeah, I still find new characters all the time. Actually, in this most serious and new version, some of the new characters are: Wiley, Cheryl, Mark, Melanie, the Ultimate Soldier (who does have a name, but Edith doesn't know it), OH yeah-- Edith, and the one called Madam (who also has a name).

Yay, Rogue! She breaks my heart! She's definitely my favorite! (You know, if we're going to be less superficial than counting Wolverine just for the fact that Hugh Jackman is ridiculously HOT!!! ) Oh wow, I'm very surprised to hear that Cheryl is a new character! But Paula isn't? Do you mean Paula had a mother in the older versions, but you just didn't know anything about her? I'd love to know your character count, if you ever get around to doing it!

Oh, and on second thought, and with your wish to control the wind, it reminded me of Avatar (the last airbender)! Do you love that series? (You must have seen it before, right!?! Tell me you've seen it before!!!)

Hugh Jackman is ridiculously hot as Wolverine, but the comics Wolverine is a very short and hairy man, lol. They had to pretty him up for the movies. As a comics fan, I couldn't completely approve of that. To keep my cred and all. Yup, in the original version, well I was fifteen and hadn't really developed the world. I didn't know anything about Paula's mom, and she didn't really have one. She was actually raised by, uh, Henri. Who still wasn't in the picture very much either, so it was mostly still her and Brandon. Of course in the fifteen year old inception of the story, Jimmy was also nice, so you see how impaired my judgment was. I haven't ever seen the Last Airbender series. (Don't worry fans, I have NOT watched the movie either and I don't plan to, lol.)

It's okay, I don't need any cred if I can have Hugh Jackman! Oh, you just HAVE to watch it! HAVE TO! You would LOVE it, seriously!!! It's so smart, and funny, and sweet, and surprisingly deep. I'm serious! Best animated series ever! I have no desire to see the movie either, and from what I've heard, I'm not missing much. Okay, I'll shut up and let some other people ask questions now, lol!

I love your mosaic! It's just beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing so much detail about how you create and who you are. Your writing is so polished and professional, I'm sure you'll be published and famous in no time.
I was wondering, obviously you've spent a lot of time thinking about this particular society and world. It's a very dark place. Did any particular book or movie inspire you to explore such difficult themes?

Great interview, Lunar I'm curious--which of your characters do you find you relate to most? Or is there a little bit of you inside each one of them?

Thank you Beth for the support. Hum, that's a good question. I don't think any works in particular inspired it. Just real life. I think I just needed an outlet to express my pain when I was a teen and this was the result. Which is odd because I'm a rather chipper person on the outside. Most people suggest I write fluffy magical children's books when they hear I like writing. Everyone. Even my older sister suggested it. Thanks, Van. Oh yes, I'm definitely one of those people who have a little bit of myself in each character. But, perhaps somewhat unexpectedly, Henri is the character I most feel an affinity for. He just never wants to be where I put him and he won't play the game my way, so I can't force him. I understand that all too well myself since I'm always having to find new ways to trick myself into doing things I don't wanna do. I'm quiet though I sometimes speak loudly without meaning to, and I have trouble connecting with people though they fascinate me. Plus I can be grumpy and sometimes I really just need my time away from people. I don't like hanging out all that much either, but when my couple of friends get together they want me to organize them and make all the decisions.

You and I would get on very well in RL then Lunar - I can be very bossy at times, so happy to organise you into doing stuff you want to do. Also on the 'need time away from people' - you are my soul sister I think!

First, I just want to say that your interview was great, and your answers to the questions have been a lot of fun to read. I know you're an advocate of trusting oneself to write a story the way it is supposed to be written and to take it where it needs to go, and I think that's a valuable message that can get a lot of writers past the stage of agonizing over every step so that they just write.
My question is whether you've ever written a character's reaction to or handling of a situation and then upon reflection, realized that it isn't in character or that it wasn't precisely the way they'd really react (I'm talking about when it's still in draft form and you haven't yet posted or finalized it yet). As a second part to that question, if that has happened, is there a particular reason or set of reasons why you think it has happened (or why it is most likely to happen)? Like was it because you didn't fully understand a character, or you were too focused on getting the story to a particular point, etc.?

As a second part to that question, if that has happened, is there a particular reason or set of reasons why you think it has happened (or why it is most likely to happen)? Like was it because you didn't fully understand a character, or you were too focused on getting the story to a particular point, etc.? Oh that's a good one! Yes, it happens pretty often it seems. With drafts, I always give myself leeway anyway to just write it down and explore the scene by whatever means necessary. But then sometimes when I think I've got it and I'm done, and I'll be good for months, as soon as I look at it I realize I've gotten it wrong somehow. A lot of the time it is just because I didn't fully understand a character. My gut will usually tell me when I have it wrong, but not why. So that's when I end up doing what I guess are character studies where I list everything I know about them, and sometimes track their movements in stories. It's usually a lot of babble, but it helps me get back on track. The other issue is just the way I like to explore. I prefer to write in first person, and I seem to gravitate towards the people who have no power. Their stories fascinate me. But I think in those early drafts, I usually worry less about the first person character who's telling the story than the scene I'm seeing, so the first person is usually just a simple and generic character, and I have to work on fleshing that character out later on. So far this happened most notably to Cheryl and Mary, and I was so far off on those I pretty much had to completely rewrite them. The only thing of Cheryl's story I kept was the beginning and the ending. Kiri- I make sure to take at least one day a week away from people to gather my reserves. I get really grumpy when people want to hang out on that one day I don't wanna do anything. Aw, thanks Illandrya.

Fab interview, I loved reading it.
My question: Are there any characters (either current or upcoming) that you dread writing?

Thanks, Rad.
I dread writing Angel and Mitchell's story and that's just because I want to be sure to do it justice and do it properly because it's so far from anything I've experienced personally that it's going to be hard to write. I've even considered poking a couple of friends and asking them about their experiences just to have fodder for the subconscious...

Fascinating look at the inner workings of yourself and your process. I had to snicker at the "I don't do romance." Ummm, yeah, you do Lunar, LOL! And very well~Subtle, but it's there~ Here's a question, (silly, I know) What male character of yours do you secretly lust after, wish he could be real? Or is there none that appeal, and why?

lol, Drew. You've caught me. But thank you. Romance is one of the more difficult things to do especially for me considering my complete lack of experience. Oh man, that's a tough question! Well, I admit to lusting on all of them a little bit. But if I could turn one of them real, it'd be Jimmy. (Wow, that answer actually surprised me.) I think he'd be interesting. He's funny and playful, but he's also serious. He's probably the sort of guy who'd either be easy to talk into doing stuff or could easily encourage you into doing stuff. And I mean like adventure stuff outside of the house perverts, lol. Otherwise I think the rest of them are honestly all way too damaged to be real, lol. Well except for maybe Brandon.

Would I expect anything else from you? (Though if you think about it, with Jimmy's playful and serious personality... No no, you see what you've got me doing? )
