Sarahjane - That could work too. Sticking to the same origin of where the name/s came from rather than the meaning. I just can't help myself as to thinking what sort of personality some of my sims children will have though. I know they will either be similar to their mother or father but I think depending on what they experience in life can determine what sort of personality they'll have too.

I had the character of Piotr in mind, and since he and his twin brother were already in a graphic novel series (mine, of course) under those names, I kept them. However, Pavel's personality does certainly not reflect his name in either case, as he's anything but "humble", lol. The only difference between him as a Sim and as a graphic novel character is that he's a zombie in the former and a superhuman with psychic and physical abilities in the latter. With Piotr, it's a bit more complicated. He's a vampire in the Sim story, as well as head of a family, but in the graphic novel, he is a superhuman with the same psychic and physical abilities as Pavel (being identical twins and all), but was disowned by his father for being bisexual. So I didn't think about the name's meaning, really, when I thought of these guys in their original forms. That's cool. So taking the two characters from your graphic novel you gave them a second life.

Lepifera - Your way sounds very organized. I never originally looked up the meaning for any of the characters in my story, and not even for their children. Although I do have a sim that is kind of hippy-like and if she were to have children I'd probably name them something hippy. lol Also I like no. 2 - 'For a girl, her name would start with a letter that follows the beginning letter of her mother's first name in the order of the alphabets. In the case of the boy, his father's name.'

Organized? Oh, no, no. I did not start out with the intention of being organized. It is because there are so many interesting names to choose from in the database. If I don't narrow down the choices somewhat, I would be scratching my head from sunrise til sunset, and still not be able to decide on how I want to name the baby, let alone actually writing and editing stories.

Haha, okay then. I think that's what happened to me the other night. I was up until all hours of the morning searching through names because I couldn't settle on a select few.

I can't say that I take a lot of time in figuring out a name, unless there is a need to bring in their social background into the plot. Of course I do try to stick with names fitting my sims' ethnic background but I will deviate at times. I usually create my sim first and name them according to what they 'look' like their name would be. I'll usually wait until I have their traits etc established and just pull names out of the ether. lol

Of course I do try to stick with names fitting my sims' ethnic background but I will deviate at times. That's usually how you do it. My vampire family is Russian in origin, so they get Russian names. I have two other characters in my other Sim story who are Indian, so they get named (or shortened variations thereof) from their native country of India. I also have a Japanese national and a French national in that same story (Infinity/The Reptilia) and they get names from their native countries of Japan and France respectively. In The Last Knight (my finished Sim story), most of the mortal characters were from Northern Ireland. So they got named according to that. The mystical beings got their names from Celtic mythology (Merlin, Nimue, Oberon, etc.) and Shakespeare. In my graphic novel series, The Outcasts, I have Chinese-Americans who get mostly just Chinese family names, with a few exceptions where they have full names in Chinese (namely the man who was supposed to be the main protagonist's father-in-law, whose name is XaiTong Wen Huang). I also have a couple of Irish characters that are upcoming, and of course, the Russian twins Piotr and Pavel. My other graphic novel series, One Life, tends to take place on an alien planet, therefore you get completely alien names altogether.

Velvet - there seems to be a far few writers out there that like to keep their sims/characters names in relation to the same ethnic background.

Oh my I hope I'm not being a total forum post hogger, lol! Ah, we like our forums full. Hell, I almost own the Exercises thread. Most of my characters were already named loooooong before they were Sims so that's just a copying thing. As for newer characters that have become Sims...well, one way is to close your eyes, hover over the keyboard until one of your fingers pushes down a key and that letter would be the first letter in the first name. Say the letter V...look at the character until your eyes bleed or say V names (from the Internet or baby book) until one suits your character. WaLA! That's how I got Vaiden. Same process for the last name...which actually I find last names to be harder to make than first names. barbecue chicken wings

Have to agree with you on choosing a last name too. Damn. I always end up find pretty standard last names. lol

Sometimes I just stare at my sims, and the names will come to me. When it doesn't, I usually think of what type of sims they are, and I search for a name that matches their personality on baby websites. I've found a lot of cool names this way. I actually had an (unpublished) crime legacy where each descendant was named after a criminal. T'was fun.
