Long-hand Questions:
1. What is your favorite quote?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
~ Marianne Williamson
This pretty much sums up why I have and also why I have not done so many of the things I want to do in my life.
2. Which book has had the greatest impact on you (eg moved/disturbed/thrilled/made you cry)?
The Cat in the Hat. Seriously, how many great life lessons this short and simple book contains still amazes me. It has taught me about patience, persistence, dealing with rejection (because how many times and ways was Sam-I-Am told “no”), not prejudging things, not being afraid to try new things…the list goes on and on.
3. Why did you start creating and posting sim stories?
I’ve answered this question somewhere else before and while it was a true answer it wasn’t the whole answer. What follows may sound strange; please don’t judge me. A long, long time ago I was obsessed with playing with Barbie dolls. My best friend and I would spend hours talking through storylines, preparing hair and wardrobe, etc. Our mother’s watched soap operas, so of course we did too by default, so our Barbie sessions consisted of crazy stuff like high speed car chases, paternity scandals, affairs, funerals; the whole nine yards.
Flash forward many years later, I decided to buy the Sims 2, regular game play gets boring after a while and I have this great idea to reprise my Barbie stories using the Sims. In the process of trying to “simify” one of my old Barbie’s (that I still have btw) I ended up creating a “dud” that I named Isabella Monacco. I started playing with her in an experimental way and the more I did the more interesting she became. After a while I found myself creating storylines in my head to fit the things that happened to her in-game. I dumped the Barbie story, ran with Isabella’s story and the rest is Life, Love, & Lies history.
4. Are there any stories in particular that have inspired your storytelling?
The Dark December/Sessions series by Gayl and S.B. has been my biggest inspiration. The world and stories they’ve created are so real and tangible. It was the first story that showed me what was possible using Sims 2 as a medium for storytelling. Fabulous work!
5. What have you written so far - and where can we find it (URL/Publication)?
My main story is Life, Love, & Lies : simssaga.blogspot.com
There is also a spin off story, Las Visas: lvsimsstory.blogspot.com
6. Who is your favorite character of your own?
Normally my knee jerk answer would be Isabella Monacco, but right now my favorite is a new character that I’m working on for a new story. Her name is Desi McCoy. I’m writing her in first person POV, which is new and challenging for me and the more I write for her the more fascinating she becomes. She’s very colorful, but she is also very dark and complex and her dreams/nightmares are AMAZING!
7. Do you have one character that frustrates you more than any of the others?
I actually have two that hold the title for most frustrating: Nico DeSantos because he won’t go sit the hell down and fade into the background when I need him to. He just keep talking and talking in my head demanding that he have a larger role in things. The other is Blake Bolthouse, who has the opposite problem. The more I try to bring him out of his shell the further he burrows in. They are both wildly stubborn and temperamental and sometimes it really just flat out pisses me off.
8. If it were possible, would you carry out "romantic interactions" with any of your characters?
Two words: Nico DeSantos. Just give me a bottle of massage oil and a few hours in a dark, locked room, and well……
9. How far do you plan storylines in advance?
I plan way, way in advance. For Life, Love, & Lies and Las Vistas I have storylines planned well into the adult stage of the second generation. Hopefully those plans will come to fruition.
10. Can you give us any hints about what is coming up in your stories? (Oh, come on...)
Life, Love, & Lies: As everything comes crashing down on Isabella and she is pushed to her breaking point she will begin doing things that are very out of character for her. She will be a very different person on the other side of this emotional storm.
Las Vistas: Hidden truths will be revealed that will change the course of several lives. New and unexpected relationships will be formed. One character will bring a new life into the world while another will have a very startling brush with death.
**New Story**
Lucid: Desi’s Story, follows the life of Desi McCoy an aspiring artist with a checkered past, most of which she only remembers through vivid and often disturbing dreams. This story will be purely from Desi’s POV, picture heavy, and deeply inspired by musical selections or “dream tracks”. Coming soon……hopefully.
