I'm getting a bit narked off with being plagiarised and am wanting to vent...
There are a couple of people blogging apocalypse stories who are massively ripping mine off, and it's really irritating.
When I started my story, I saw Ashleigh's apoc-blog, which was in first-person mode and I thought that'd be good to use for my own story, so I asked if she'd mind if I also wrote as a first-person survivor and she said it was fine. Beyond both being first-person, our tone, detail, characters and writing are very different.
I know that with challenges, there seem to only really be three good ways of telling them: first person, third person omniscient or observational, and the first-person style seems to have become the standard amongst apoco-blogs,which is fine, and I know with the content of these blogs there will always be crossovers because people are working on the same challenge (as with legacies and SOTM challenges). Anyway, this is all preamble to say that I recognise there are going to be very similar elements in the blogs and those similarities don't necessarily equate to ripping someone off.
But people are wholesale lifting the little details from my story like phrases my characters use, small events I invented that happened to them and so on and using them in their own stories and I'm getting fed up.
I know there are limits to how different all the apoco blogs can be, but when people are nicking my phrases and my little touches, and even my characters' personalities half the time... grrr...
Anyone had this happen to them? How did you tackle it?
