Right now I'm reading Laurell K. Hamilton's Blood Noir, which I believe is book 16 in the series! If you've never heard of the series, it follows zombie-raiser/vampire executioner Anita Blake through a series of macabre adventures full of love, lust, blood, and violence. The world that Hamilton has created is lifelike and her characters are very complex--so complex that they just come to life right from the page.
The next book I plan to read will be Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Mysteries books! (Another must read series!)
So... What are you reading?

I'm currently reading 'Beyond the Wall of Time' by Russel Kirkpatrick while I wait for Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr to be released.
Kirkpatrick's books remind me a little of the scope and 'epic' feel of LOTR.

I'm reading comic books right now--the Buffy the Vampire series, as well as Angel, Fables, and Y the Last Man.
I'm also trying to read Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy, and I hope to find the time to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (original story by Jane Austen added to by Seth Grahame-Smith).

I'm reading 'Untamed' by PC Cast and Kristen Cast. I love the series, and it has to be my favorite series.

The Knife of Never Letting Go, by Patrick Ness
It's a YA book, but it's the good sort that also appeals to adults. It's wonderfully well-written - I may have perhaps almost cried the other day because I don't know if I'll ever be able to write that well.

Stacy, I will add that one to my list. I read mostly YA (always a good idea to study the market I want to break into when I'm old and grey cause that's how long it'll take me!!)
I'm onto a new book, YA this time. "Liar" by Justine Larbalestier and "Somebody's Crying" (also YA) by Maureen McCarthy and "How to Ditch Your Fairy" (YA) by Justine Larbalestier.

Yeah, so I finished Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton this morning. I'm sad to say I'm a bit disappointed. This felt more like a cheesy romance novel than the previous shoot 'em up/vampire beat down books had in the past. I feel like LKH has drifted from the old Anita Blake (bad mama-jama of a zombie raiser/executioner), to this hussy Anita Blake that has... Too many lovers to count. The new Anita puts Jenna Jameson to shame!
Ugh. Ah well, hopefully the new book in the series will get back to the roots of the old Anita Blake. I'll hold my breath for that one.
Anywho, I'm off to start the first book in the Harper Connelly Mysteries by Charlaine Harris! I'm excited, because it's a true mystery novel. A first for me!

MM, did you ever read her Merry Gentry series? I really loved the concept and the first two books weren't too bad but then it got exactly the same way as the Anita Blake series. Too many lovers for no apparent reason than to add more sex scenes. I stopped reading after Book 3. It's a shame though cause the concept behind the Merry Gentry series was very good.

I think I also stopped with book three of the Merry Gentry books. Once I realized that she was another hussy, I just stopped buying the books. Sometimes I feel LKH writes for the publisher and not for herself anymore. Her writing has definately changed, and it's a shame.
