Yay! I am absolutely intrigued by the first chapter! Gorgeous images with great use of color, too.
May I comment on a character name and your description of her here? Sue Cleaver sounds a little like Martha Stewart! Intimidating perfectionist… Although the name Cleaver has some cultural associations here in the U.S. from the family on Leave It To Beaver in, um, the 1950s, I think. June Cleaver was the stereotype of the doting, efficient housewife.
I look forward to more!

You'll get to know Sue a lot more very soon, but yeah, I guess there is a touch of the Martha Stewarts about her (though I haven't ever seen Martha Stewart's programmes, we don't get them over here). I never knew that about Leave it to Beaver! Pure coincidence!

Chapter 4 is up: 4. Time to talkIt's a bit too info dumpy but I couldn't think of a way round it. I might put up some extras to this chapter later this week.

I left other comments on the blog, but I wanted to say here that I didn't think it was too info dumpy at all. The information given seemed appropriate the way it was presented.

Love the new insights into what might be going on! Also enjoyed the extras very much. That is one patient counselor!
Oh, wait a minute. If there are blocks all the way to E, and each block has at least 6 units for 8 girls each, then there must be not 40 like I first thought but a minimum of 240 girls being held prisoner! Yipes!

There are six to a room, not eight. You've met all six girls from 6B, but you'd be right to suspect there are significantly more than 200 residents of those rooms.
Marissa is an uber-counsellor.

After reading again, I got the six. I had miscounted seven before and figured that the one runaway was possibly from there, giving eight. Thanks for clearing me up!

Hey, I have a question. Do the events of Taken occur in the past, the present, or the future? Tell, please, if you don't feel you shouldn't.

The near future.

OK, thanks! I guess that means the takers are not going all Moonraker. ;-)

DB - I don't think I've seen Moonraker. Not a big Bond fan and only seen a few of them all the way through (and all on telly, not at the pictures or on video/DVD). This update and the next one were originally going to be one chapter, but the next one needs a lot of prep, so I thought I'd split it into two, which means you get a new chapter today! 6. Safe haven

Wahoo!
Moonraker was from the uber-absurd era of Bond, as opposed to the merely highly improbable eras. ;-) The bad guy was trying to create a master race by launching carefully chosen couples into space.
Now I'm wondering if some of the units have boys…

Wow - so we're definitely not talking a small organization, an outfit that size is hard to keep hidden, anywhere! I'm thinking there might even be government/military involvement here. *hmm*
This is a great story Rad, I am really looking forward to see how all this fits together and to get some answers to all the questions these chapters inevitably raise.
