Hi! I was curious about whether or not your non-internet friends and family know about and/or read your blog? If yes, what are their reactions to your hobby/obsession? (I'm assuming MDP and 13Pumpkin read each others' blogs, and now I'm curious about the rest of you all! Thanks in advance to those brave enough to share.

Well - John just read 10.06 and he says Seth is a very sheltered 15 year old boy if that was the first time he jumped a chain link fence. I set him straight. He told me stories about him and his younger brother and going to play tennis and jumping the fence to get balls out of the woods and I was like "Yeah, and Seth is an only child who doesn't have friends and who stays inside unless he's in his herb garden and he's not exactly normal and/or sane." Grace doesn't read it, but she has recommended it to her friends at school for some reason. Don't ask me. Oh - Grace is John's 16 year old sister who lives with us. She goes to art school and she likes to do drawings on the refrigerator magnet postboard thingy. The one before the current "Spock does not approve" drawing was actually a drawing of Seth, with fire in the background. And sometimes I say "fire" and Grace says "death" and John says "aloooone". My mother knows about it, but she's not internet-savvy and I don't think it would be her kind of reading material. She just says that I should send it to publishers because the worst they can do is say no. And she's terribly paranoid that someone is going to steal it and get it published. Again, please note - she doesn't understand that Valley is a Sims story. Just so we don't have another situation like that secret saying that Valley wasn't going to get published and I needed to get over myself, because we all know that thinking about writing a novel version of Valley is the same as printing out the Sims story and sending it to publishers. Oh, and once on the phone she said "We all have our hobbies, don't we? Like you and your stories on the internet." The sales dude at work, who we actually bought our house from, asked me to put him in the book version of Valley as a badass private detective who got all the chicks. Another coworker read what I had up of Valley when I linked it on Facebook and said it was really good. That's pretty much it - oh, and one of my brothers is also pushing me toward traditional publishing. But then he's definitely the most traditional member of our family - he moved out when I was two and went to live with his father, so I blame it on that. I don't think he's read it - he just read the article I linked on Facebook about the owner of the small publishing company who was following me on the old Twitter account before I deleted it.

My brother also reads my blog. He's a little irritated that there hasn't been a foosball game or internet chat battle in The Gang, but he still reads them. I'm helping him build his own blog as well.

Yes...MDP (of course) reads mine and I hers. My nephew, sister and -second to youngest- daughter reads it...and I read it to my boyfriend I used to send the original "Sunday Sims" by e-mail to my Dad...he admitted that he didn't even read it, he would just delete it. He said he thinks I'm crazy and the Sims are stupid...parents

No, not really. Nobody in my family has any interest in any of my blogs, or really even my "serious" writing at all. They just know I'm not published and am *still* working on my novel. They read books - they even read the kind of books like I write... just you know, not mine.
I sent a link for LH to my BFF once, because she was talking about how she stopped reading Nicholas Sparks because he was ridiculous, and she wanted to read more original and realistic relationship stories... but no, as far as I know, she's never read any of LH. She never asks about my serious writing either.
Hubby knows about it, of course. He says he's read some of it before, and that it was good. If he has read any of it though, it's probably like, one or two. He'll stand to let me talk to him about it, sometimes, if I'm talking about my alien war or something. He thinks I spend too much time on it (which I kind of do), when I should be trying to finish my novel and get it published.
Someone from a writing group once read a bit of LH, and confessed that she had to stop reading it because it was too addicting. I guess that's kind of a compliment.
Dylan asks me about my writing, kind of. He's four. He'll ask me, "Did you finish chapter 3, or chapter 4? Or chapter 5?" Really he just likes to say his numbers, because counting is a big deal at his age. But he knows I write stories, and that I suddenly have to stop what we're doing sometimes to go "write something down." And he'll even sometimes go "write something down" himself, which is ADORABLE!
Neither of my parents ever got to read anything I'd written before... you know...
So yeah, it is what it is. Geeze, sorry to be Debbie Downer and all, lol! I guess this is more a sore spot than I'd realized.

Don't feel bad, Laura. I started to respond and then realized that my ultimate answer was "no."
No one I know reads my blog. I shared the link with friends, but only Jay, my boyfriend has looked. He checked out the first story, and that was only after I sort of threw a tiny fit (maybe more than tiny, they happen sometimes believe it or not) because when we used to chat late nights when we were long distance, he always said he wondered what I wrote about and that he'd like to read it some day. And here I was sharing this actually old story that is very dear to me, and he kept forgetting to even look at it.
And well, that's it. My niece likes it when I show her pictures and tell her about it though, so that's something. I asked her why she doesn't just read the blog (she spends any online time reading manga scans) and she said, "Why read it when I can get it from the source?"

I guess I'm in the same situation of a lot of you.
My Mom reads it, she's not internet savvy but when I started she said "oh look, this is so cool!" and showed my Dad who shrugged a bit and went back to working (lol) but that's the way he is with everything so its not very surprising.
My brother laughed a little when I told him, but he is a rock musician and plays Starcraft so maybe he doesn't understand the sim stuff?
Some of my coworkers know about it and they all have their own hobbies but I haven't let any of them read it -- mainly because I'm their boss and I try to maintain the coworker relationship and not slide into the friend relationship with them.
And my boyfriend has read it before. Mainly he likes to look at the pictures and make up his own stories to make me laugh when I'm sad --> he has the current blue children conspiring with Loony to get them back to outer space where the blue people belong ---> he's freaked out by the blue people and doesn't want me to play in his room anymore cause they weird him out.
I guess nobody is discouraging, but nobody really cares either ('cept my Mom, she cares about everything I do though so does that really count?)
Maybe its just me wanting to keep it all separate.

I've shared it with only two real-life people, I think....my aunt, and a long-time college friend. I don't think my aunt ever got around to reading it, but my friend read the first story at least and she'd planned to read the others. She is a doctor and now a new mommy, however, so I don't think it's going to happen. I don't really expect my husband to read it. He knows about certain elements of it, and he tells other people that I write Sim stories. I've shown him pictures that involve me doing something crazy, like photoshopping in something, etc., but that's really it. It isn't that strange for us, though, because when we were both graduate students we hardly talked about each others' work at all. My grad school friends would ask what his studies were about, and I could tell they were kinda appalled when I'd say "Durr..." and just look blank. We just talk about other things when we're together (mostly food, movies, TV, political/world issues, our families, and our dogs, lol). I have friends who would read it if I told them where to find it, but....I can't. I guess I'm a little...embarrassed or scared to share it because of the romantic slant of the story. I can share it with all of you because you had no preconceived notions of who I was before you started reading it, but it's hard for me to share it with people who really know me. That's probably pretty weird....

Ooooh good topic! I have one good friend who has read some of mine and seemed to like it, but she has played sims. She has also heard me talk about my ideas for a novel and the characters and the setting, and she asks me sometimes if I've started actually writing that yet. (No. Sigh.)
I tend to compartmentalize (work people in one box, which must be closed before opening the relatives box, etc.). I've considered putting a list of websites, emails, logins, and passwords with my will (no, I'm not rich lol) so somebody can notify my online friends if I suddenly "pop off." is that morbid?

I wanted to share a typical dinner conversation. Oh, Grace recently dyed a purple streak in her hair and it reminded me very much of a My Little Pony. "Okay, so, there's this green meadow with all flowers and trees and friendly woodland creatures. And unicorns! And rainbows! And everyone's happy and going all frolic frolic frolic. But then...Seth shows up! And the unicorns and the friendly woodland creatures run away right, because Seth is one scary badass dude. And he goes whoosh with a flamethrower and the meadow burns and he goes frolic frolic frolic and sings 'Burning fire all the way across the meadow, so intense, omg, what does it mean?'." "In 10.07 you should have Seth and Caitlyn frolic." "Yes! They could ride Grace around the factory!" "Okay so, in this universe either I'm really tall or Seth and Caitlyn are really tiny and I'm like a giant and they're riding around on my shoulders." "No silly, you're a pony! And they're riding you around and it's all wheee! OMG, that works! Because of the Wizard of Oz stuff and the horse of a different color! OMG!" "You should have Seth and Caitlyn just frolicking and riding around on Grace in the factory and nothing bad happens and no one is troubled. Your readers would freak out, man!"

That's like Seth meets Gunky's sparkle pony abs meets Dorothy on way more drugs than would fit in her little basket.
What were having for dinner, and can I come next time? ;-)

Haha Stacy! Why is it that villians are so adorable when there's unicorns and puppy involved? This is what I instantly thought of! www.youtube.com/watch%3fv=fcbazH6aE2gTo the OP, I don't share my sim stuff with anyone. It's not that I'm ashamed, rather my friends and family just aren't interested. When I'm online, my boyfriend asks me if I'm writing my stories again. He doesn't have any interest in reading so I haven't bothered to ask him to check out my stuff. My mom knows I write; she writes poetry, however we don't swap. If I could find someone who shared my interest, I'd gladly give them the link. Unfortunately, I'm in a "party town" and trying to explain how I met my love is a task to these people. They're like...."So which dating site did you guys use?" "We met on a video game." "On the computer?" Yeah, explaining that you met playing elves and dwarfs in an epic battle for territory with thousands of other players....does not compute.

heeheeheeheeHAHAHAHAWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAgigglesnort! ~wipes tears~ That's like Seth meets Gunky's sparkle pony abs meets Dorothy on way more drugs than would fit in her little basket. What were having for dinner, and can I come next time? ;-) Yay! We were at Landmark, our most favoritest restaurant ever. One of the major reasons we bought this house is that it's within walking distance of Landmark. I was probably having a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and a lovely delicious pickle - yeah, because I was planning on writing later and I was going on about food powering writing and the immense power of the pickle. Oh! One time we were at Carino's and Grace was talking about having to do a surrealism project in her art class and I suggested an emo vampire gnawing on a rock, trying to get blood out of it. This was a while ago and I don't remember all of it, but we laughed a lot and then she said "Every time I need an idea, Stacy gives me one I like." I said "Yeah, that's why I'm writing Valley and you guys aren't." and she got this shocked look on her face and I was all "Oh, that was a joke!" and John was shaking his head no and laughing and saying "No, no, it wasn't." Oh, and one time we were at this fish place and next to our table was this drawing of boats with a frame, and on the corner of the frame was this duck that was way out of proportion with the boats and I made up an epic song on the spot about Duckzilla - haha, it was like mad Stacy rhymes about a giant rampaging duck and all the boats running away from it with a chorus of "Duckzilla, Duckzilla!". And once, another time at the same restaurant, I made an evil totalitarian government and a rebel army out of our hush puppies. But then John started eating them! With a wicked evil laugh! It was horrible. I mean, I didn't really mind when he ate Bertha the evil dictator, but then he ate Victor the resistance hero. The closest I've ever been to drugs is smelling weed at a Rolling Stones concert. I have been told that people do drugs to be like how I am naturally though. meowzbark - Villains are always adorable! Well - in the entertainment I choose to watch/read. I love this song, omg! When You're EvilI vote that Seth is frolicking to this song in the burning meadow. And that sucks about people you know not getting stuff - if it helps I totally understand meeting playing an MMORPG. My last WoW guild was made up of married couples.

A truly awesome song. I wish someone like Linkin Park or another rock band would remake it. The tempo is annoying but the lyrics are priceless. Then again, I could picture it as a Lady Gaga song. Remix!
Yeah, I played WoW for a bit, but it's too casual for my liking now. 40 man instances were "pure win". To hell with pugging these 5 man dungeons. If they returned the game to pre-BC, I'd resub.
