We need a thread for whispering secrets... or at least petty inconsequential things you don't want to tweet because your husband reads your twitter feed? lol!
Just dropped off my kid at school and realized that one of the dads there is superhot, and French! I mean, I already knew he was superhot, but I heard him talking to his kid today as they were going in, and *swoon* French accent!
No worries of course, my husband is also superhot, and has a British accent.
And hell, I clearly have a thing for accents, lol!
Okay, so I just had to "say that out loud". Your turn. Anybody else got a secret?
(Can we members-only this thread? ;D)

Ooh I love secrets! Unfortunately I have none to share at the moment Hmm, I was never particularly attracted to accents... it's probably because if I heard somebody speak my language with e.g. French accent I would roll on the floor laughing. But the truth is that when I hear a man speaking with one of the accents they use in certain areas of my country, I find it a complete turn-off even if the guy is superhot.

Laura! I wouldn't blame you. French accent? *swoon* I love any kind of accent as well. One of my favorite things that Jay does is when he casually says something like "potatah" or "windah." That's about the extent of his accent though.

Sfe, what's your native language? I think I love accents so much because the mid-western American English accent is just about the blandest accent on the planet, lol! Lunar, see? Yes! You get it! I love all the different American regional accents too. Can't really think of any one that I don't like. *where is that drool smiley when we need it?*

Mmmmm, men with accents... Yeah, Sfe, a lot of people butcher the French accent. I used to speak kind of okay French, but I don't think I ever had the accent right :S It's always interesting to think about how different accents can be even just across North America (which probably sounds weird, since it's a bigger landmass than Europe). I'm from Western Canada, so I can hear a bit of an accent in most American speakers, but I've been told by Americans that we have a much more Americanized accent than people from Eastern Canada. Like, I've only ever heard the word "aboot" on American television--I will admit to "eh", though

I love the Canadian accent too! lol! (Told you, I love them all!) And I can vouch for the "aboot" around Ontario, and even down into many parts of Michigan.
Yes, I agree, it's perfectly logical how many different accents we have across such a large continent, but we just never think of it since we all speak English, lol!

I just luv accents all together. The Romanian accent ...we do need a drool smiley... Kiri? Actually through the years, I have been trying to copy accents. The French accent is really hard, but sooo beautiful. I'm a master at British, but not at Aussie. They're close in relation, but somehow I can't make the plunge over to Aussie. Irish, Scottish are also in close relation, but they're a lot easier to do. Blah American accents, but I'm American so it's nothing new to me. My mom's from the north and my dad's from the south and we live in the middle of the country.

*expects things to be thrown* I'm not majorily keen on American accents, although the that Brenda has in the Closer is great. Also not keen on the Welsh accent or language and technically I was born in Wales. I struggle to understand the really Scottish "Taggart" accents though. Australian accents are nice. But I really don't prefer people because of their accents though.

- Accents can be really sexy, although I still find that a guy who uses his brain and has a high emotional iq to be the highest in sexiness for me.

My secret is... I may be moving state in the new year, if I get the job in Hobart that I have an interview for on the 20th.
I'm still not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

Well, seeing as I grew up practically here and there here in the good ol' US, I have to say that some people have mentioned to me that I kind of have a Midwestern/Southern twang in my voice. One being my grandmother, who has a North Jersey accent and another from a random guy back when I lived in Illinois. I pretty much learned to talk in Kansas and Maryland, so that's probably why.

I have no accent according to people here and there and my speech teacher from highschool. However, if I'm with a particular group that has alike accents, say Hispanic, I will start talking like them. It's a little creepy at time.

Oooo. Illandyra. All the best! And Kiri, best of luck on the job~ And my answer to the whole 'aboot' question...(I agree Van, I have never heard a Canadian say it, love how South Park skewers it) www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRI-A3vakVgThis is a beer commercial from a few years back, that we Canadians just embraced. I love at the end of his rant, he says 'thank you', that's us, polite to a fault!

Illandrya, best of luck with your date Laura, my native language is Greek. It's not spoken anywhere but Greece so I'm not very familiar with non-native accents of Greek other than the American one (due to the fact that many Greeks had immigrated to the U.S.) and the accents of people who have immigrated here, who are mostly from Middle East and their accents sound strange in Greek. We also have a lot of immigrants from the former Soviet union and Albania. But none of these accents sounds sexy in Greek, mainly because you can hardly understand what they're saying and it's kind of frustrating. dinuriel, French accent is hard indeed!! However, what I meant is that Greek would probaby sound very funny to me if a French person spoke it. I don't have a problem with different accents though, since I, for one, don't have the greatest of accents in any of the non-native languages I speak except for English (which I only 'perfected' very recently even though I've known this language for over 15 years). As regards accents of the English, I prefer the British one but the American is the clearest to me. I'm not sure I can distinguish an Australian accent. Also, once I went to a French-speaking part of Switzerland and since I don't speak French I had to communicate in English with someone whose accent was TOO French... It was impossible, I couldn't understand a word. ;D So to put an end to my rambling, I'm more attracted to languages than accents. Accents might sound odd when not spoken in their own language. For example, I find the Italian language very sexy, but English in an Italian accent sounds funny to me.

This thread popped into my head today when I was talking to an IT guy on the phone at the university. He had a great voice--no real accent, but the tone was very rich and clear. I could have listened to him all day. Kiri, I know how that goes. When we moved it was definitely a great move for my husband in terms of his career, but we were both sad about moving away from friends, and further away from my family (we're already kinda far from them). I hope you gain some clarity on it soon and figure out what you really want! Illandrya, good luck with the date! Let's hope it's a hot one.
