Yes, I will admit, I make them. I really don't keep most of them. But I do like the whole concept of turning over to a fresh page, a new beginning. I ring in the new year, do the countdown, hubby and I make it a movie night,(I am too old for parties, unless we invite some moose and coyotes, seeing as I live in the woods) we make potato skins and share a bottle of bubbly at midnight. We made it through another one! YAY! My resolutions for 2011? Yeah, the old 'lose weight' thing. Been on my list for more years than I care to count. Also, I resolve to submit something, anything to some publishers. (of the romance variety) I am almost ready with one. I just have to overcome my self doubt and get on the stick. To try and not get so upset over certain things, like games crashing. And water heaters blowing on Xmas Eve. Got any resolutions to share? Or you can tell me to sod off. ;D And OMG, I started a thread! Only took 7 months! ~HAPPY NEW YEAR~

Mine generally last until February, if that, but I do make resolutions.
To lose weight is one for for me too! I'm restarting the 30 Day Shred on January 1 and hope to stick to it this time!
Also to read more books. I got a Sony Reader for Christmas and I'm hoping that will make it easier. I tend to not bring books with me when I go out, because I get upset when they get damaged in my bag (which they almost always do).

I just try to make resolutions that I'm sure I'll keep. (In other words, ones that are easy, lol!)
This year I'm promising myself to write at least an hour a day, and it doesn't matter what I write. The ultimate goal is to complete something. I have plenty of stories floating around in my head, so it's time to complete them.

Carla, February? Wow, that's great, that's longer than I ever have. But I am determined also, I have to kick-start some sort of activity. Can one use a laptop on a exercise bike? And a Sony reader for Xmas, how cool. I am reading a lot more ebooks since I got the laptop. Best of luck with your resolutions!

Lunar, easy is good! There is such a feeling of satisfaction when you keep even one resolution. And I will bet you will keep the writing one. It is actually a good idea. Discipline. I have heard of a lot of writers that once they get in the habit of writing everyday, they can pretty much stick with it. You go!

Can one use a laptop on a exercise bike? You actually can, lol! Or at least, I used to read on my laptop on my treadmill. Little hard to type though, but yes, I tried that too I pretty much broke all of my goals for 2010, yet I'll probably make some goals again for 2011, even if they're bound to be broken. I didn't do *too* badly with my writing this year. I didn't finish my novel like I wanted, but I did make some progress, and I do have some nice momentum going, so I won't discredit that. But the losing 25 lbs, OMG, big FAT fail, lol! Haven't lost a drop! And this is so not like me either. Just 2-3 years ago, I was hiking 20 miles a week, and had lost all my baby weight and then some! So I need to get back on that. So there's mine. Ordinary and boring, lol!

I'm not one for making resolutions either because I think you can just start tomorrow. However, I do think that there's a certain psyching yourself out in preparation for it. I've made a resolution even though it's not January 1st yet. By the end of 2011 I would like to run a 5K, which apparently is the equivalent to 3 miles. I think a year is adequate time. I had started running a mile bt due to some issues couldn't get back into it. Here's hoping I can because God knows that I hate running with a passion.

Illandyra, I think it is a good goal as well. I know sometimes, it just doesn't come,(any writing) I hadn't really written anything in a few weeks. But the last few days, has been a gold mine. I am getting used to this laptop keyboard better, and now try to write a little before I go to bed. Have been doing it the last few nights, hope I can keep it up!
I also put those NaNo writing meters at my main blog, it helps keep me going and keep track of the words.

Laura, LOL!!! I went and looked at my exercise bike, it is one of those old things, short of bungee cording and lassoing the laptop on my handle bars, not sure it can work for me, but I am going to try! Hey, I can watch a movie on the bike! You did great writing wise, any writing, is a goal met. And I feel you, about the weight, maybe we should start a weight loss thread, peek in every week telling of our goals, if any, were met.

Some years I'm all about the resolutions, and others I barely give it any thought. This year I can't really resolve to do the whole weight loss thing since I'm going to be prego for half the year, but I can resolve to do some light exercise, like walking and some pregnancy yoga, etc..
I could resolve to keep my house cleaner. It's never filthy, but it could be a lot better. Things always seem to pile up and there's really no good reason. If I started building good habits, then maybe by the time the baby comes it won't be so overwhelming (ha, ha, yeah right).
I would like to get back to my previous posting schedule of a chapter a week. That was a good schedule and I felt like my story had good momentum. I think I'll resolve to go back to one chapter a week on the Ed Prescott series, and one every other week for my WYD challenge.

Good luck with all of your resolutions.
I plan on losing about 2 stone 4 pounds (so 32 pounds), but then I've been planning on that a while. Last year I only had 2 stone to lose but then I went and stopped excercising. Also the most important plan is to get a job, really need/want one.

Most of my new years resolutions are about losing weight. But this year I've decided to do something different. And keep it simple. 2 New Year Resolutions: 1. Write. 2. Do at least one thing this year, that's just for myself and not for anyone else, or because other people think I should do it. (And basic housekeeping and hygiene doesn't count! ) Good luck to everyone with their NY resolutions!

Kiri, I like your resolutions. Both of them. Doing something for one's self is a must. Good luck to you! Losing weight is I think the top one for a lot of people, it is one of mine, and here I go talking of potato skins and wine, etc,

Pink, join the club, I would like to lose about that amount of weight as well. I really am going to have to staple myself to the exercise bike, no two ways around it. And good luck with the job hunt!

Rachel, upping your activity is always a good thing, esp. as you say, you will be 'preggo' part of the year. Ah yes, the house. Always a challenge. It seems all I do is laundry, and there is only two of us. Update schedules is also a good goal, I am trying to keep to one myself. I also resolve to get caught up on some sim stories this coming year, I have been terrible.

Thanks for the well wishes. Here's hoping the shin splints and the chest problem goes away in time.
Kiri, sweet and simple wins the race. Good luck to the rest of you all!

I don't always make resolutions, but I did this last year: to exercise consistently. Guess what? I actually kept up exercising three times a week and lost 19 pounds! I also gave up soft drinks (but I still miss an ice cold Coke sometimes). So for next year, I'll just commit to keeping it up.
I've always thought there should be some kind of contraption that you could attach to a TV or computer where you would have to keep pedaling to make it work. That would be a motivation, huh?
My sympathies on the poorly timed water heater conkout, Drew!
All the best to everybody on their resolutions!

I think that is what I should strive for, at least three times a week for the activity thing. Oh god, LOL! I would love a contraption like that. It would be great motivation! Thanks about the water heater, luckily, even here in Moosetown, we found someone who could replace it the morning of Xmas eve, so we had hot water over Xmas at least. But still, $$$$. Merry feckin' Christmas.

I'm not one for making resolutions, but I want to finish my PhD in 2011, that'll do.
