I reread all my Sims 2 stuff a couple of weeks ago.
I have some very definite themes going on. Insanity, obsession, and murder mostly. Wonder what that says about my subconscious?
What shows up frequently in your writing?

You come up with some great topics for discussion Stacy.
Your themes are similar to mine. What does that say about both of our subconscious minds!
Let's see ... insanity (my characters tend to be a bit loopy, I think I am way too obsessed with mental health or something), deception, betrayal, immortality, moral dilemas, spiritual enlightment, conspiracy, humanity, destruction, chaos, dark vs light, temptation, corruption. There's probably more that I can't think of right now.

So I've been trying to give this some thought. Very often in my writing, subconsciously I write about power, masculine v. feminine, family relations (usually father, mother, son, daughter). From Carnaxa's list, I have also tapped chaos, deception, and destruction.

I seem to have these themes running through my head when I write fiction:
-deception (especially justified deception) -doing seemingly bad things for good reasons (the greater goooood) -mismatches between beliefs and actions, and what they mean about a person's moral character -complex romantic feelings and relationships

I seem to have a theme of dysfunctional families and abandonment. I don't think any of my families are 'normal'

This is very interesting!
Mine - death, for sure! Death and the people left behind by it, and the fear that the person you love most could be snatched away at any moment. On a personal level, I suppose I'm somewhat traumatized by death...
Strong women and what it means to be a strong independent woman within a relationship. Feminist themes come up quite often for me.
Hmmm... love, in all shapes and forms. In the end, on some level or another, everything comes down to love for me.

I'm not really too sure what my themes are......the good in everyone, isolation, war, hatred, prejudice...out of them Isolation is really the only real theme by way of the literature definition of theme.
I consider The Gang a problem solving story, but that's really not a theme...hmm, this will take some researching of my writing.
The Shadow is about the darkness lurking in everyone obviously, considering the main character is a Shadow Being. However, it's also about one making their own image under weight of someone else's shadow, hence the title.

The themes that repeat in my stories basically deal with mental health, the paranormal, death & dying, abandonment, urban legends, and disaster. I also like to include a little romance, but it isn't one of the main themes.
I'm a little too obsessed with dark themes for my own good.

The recurring theme in my stories as you know must be 'making the best of an unwanted situation'! The thing is, I suspect there is also a more sensual line going through it. I looked at some of the pics and lines I published in the beginning and blush. There's a (faintly) sexual theme running through all my stories, I guess. Embarassing or what?

Haha, sex can definitely be a theme.
I noticed that the whole aspect of being "reborn" (in a sense) and fighting inner demons is always present in my stories. I guess I just enjoy writing about people who have troubled pasts.

Death, fates worse than death, outcasts, moral ambiguity, weird childhoods, betrayal, forgiveness, and self-sacrifice all show up a lot for me.

I recently re-read all my stuff too and there are so many themes that come up in all of it.
There's a lot of strong female lead characters in my work, mainly because i think it's a lot more powerful if the lead character/hero is a woman, and because women's minds tend (to me) to be a lot more interesting. Plus they're beautiful.
There's also insanity, jealously, love/hate and the similarities between them.
But family is a huge theme in all of my stuff; the dynamics of it, the secrets, the joy and the pain of family life is constantly fascinating to me.
