How do you guys rate your stories? My main character starts out as a teen, but is in a number of adult situations. While the story is not particularly graphic it definitely has adult content. While I know that the things happening in the story are things that are happening in the lives of your average teen or their friends I can't decided whether or not to give a strong or weak rating.
Books typically aren't rated, but many writers in the sims community use the standard MPAA system. I'm thinking of using strong ratings so I don't have to worry about someone reading something they shouldn't expect or exposing a child to something inappropriate. At the same time I am concerned with scaring off the very people who might gain some benefit or identify with what I am writing.
I'd like to know what you guys do with ratings and what things do you consider when rating your work.Do you guys rate your stories? How do decide what ratings to use? Do you rate it as an entire body of work or by individual chapters?

Well, my hands is full with PG stories, haven't really thought much rating.
Even in one that involved psychotic murder ROS, the act and violence of the murder itself wasn't the focus of the story, and was merely implied, instead of explicitly depicted. Should stories hinting at murder and death be rated as containing Teen or Adult content?

Ah, ratings...I use video game ratings as my stories are made from a video game + my wicked imagination. So mostly [mostly] my stories are T for Teen; however, depending on different opinions I give extra "warnings" and such at the beginning of chapters to justify what exactly is in the chapter and if there is any content considered M for Mature.

Well the sims is rated T isn't it? Or 12+ . Based on the fact that 12 year olds are learning about the birds and bees and watching post 9pm tv which tend to be crime and murder dramas. And just think about all the soaps dealing with murder, and cot death, and ten tons of bed swapping all on before 8pm, I'm not sure that it's really a problem any more in todays world.
