I have been lurking on this forum for a few days and I finally decided to join. I'm lhasa, but you all can call me 'Nicole' if you'd like. I must say that I really feel at home on this forum. I've joined many forums dealing with legacies and/or stories and they all felt like they were just huge popularity contests. This forum doesn't have that feeling. I'm very new to The Sims universe since I've only been playing for three months. I'm a TS3 player, but I also have a deep appreciation for TS2. I did have a caption-based legacy, but a forced reformat of my hard drive after a virus plus a reinstall of Vista caused me to lose all of my work on that family. (It's a bit of a relief since I felt like the legacy was going nowhere and I was also having problems with the save game itself. I also found that I started the legacy to be "with the simming crowd" in the first place. Never again.) Since I'm free of the legacy, I decided to finally try tackling an actual story that's been swimming around in my head since I started playing. I've tried to write some fiction in the past, but I always gave up around the middle when I ran out of ideas. In order to attempt to prevent this from happening with my sim story, I'm trying to organize the plot a little and finish my character profiles beforehand. This is helping substantially and I plan to start writing very soon. Now I just need to think of a title. I'm sorry if this introduction is a bit wordy. I always tend to get overly descriptive when I write introductions on forums.

Welcome, Nicole! Good to have you! I think your introduction was very nice, not too wordy at all.

Wordy is definitely cool here. LOL popularity contest. We're all pretty good friends here and I think we all equally respect each other as artists. Oh wow, a newbie? Have you played TS2 or did you just start with TS3? Also, good job on catching on to the popularity contest vibe that early. Ooh, looking forward to your story! Feel free to post if you want any input or want to talk about it or whatever. Glad you came and posted. How did you find us?

Hi There Nicole! Welcome to the forum. I agree with you, the popularity aspect of most forums and communities makes me blanch. This is the only forum I actually visit these days - everyone here is very nice, warm and helpful and non-judgemental. So you've definitely come to the right place to hang out with some like minded people.
We also tend to be wordy ourselves so you're in good company!
How are you finding TS3? I don't think I could ever go back to TS2 after playing TS3 and the new create a neighbourhood tool looks like the icing on the cake for me.
I've never played a legacy. I tried once and I got bored before generation two. I've never been into that whole legacy thing but that's not to say I haven't seen some great stories using the legacy concept.
Feel free to drop into the creative process thread and post any questions you might have. There's always someone around to help.

Welcome! I finished my legacy a few weeks ago *Happy dance*. Then I started a new one (forehead slap).
Good to see you here, though. I think we're a nice lot.

Thank you for all of the replies!
raquelaroden: I'm glad my intro was not too wordy. I always worry about that when I post an introduction somewhere.
Stacy: Oh, the popularity thing was veeeery apparent from the get-go. I expected it because I've been a part of many popular "fandoms" and they're usually like this when it comes to writing.
It seems like a lot of sim writers are only writing stories to get tons of attention or to have their story be the next Alice and Kev or...well, In the Valley of the Sun. It's always disheartening to see people give up on their stories because they aren't receiving enough comments from other readers. Getting tons of positive and/or constructive feedback can and usually is very rewarding, but I think some writers put too much emphasis on it. I can say this from experience since I used to be like that.
I found this forum through your story. :D I started reading it recently after seeing your advertisements on one of the sims 3 communities on livejournal. (It's very thought-provoking and I deeply admire your storytelling abilities.)
As for TS2, I bought it when I read that many people preferred the game over TS3. Unfortunately, the game runs terribly on my computer for some reason and I uninstalled it. I'll reinstall when I have time to take the time to figure out why it lags and freezes so much.
carnaxa: I tend to post a bit on modthesims' picture post boards since I really enjoy taking caps, but that's pretty much the extent of my postings on other message boards.
I really love TS3. I've played TS2 for a bit and really enjoyed the large amount of sim interactions that aren't present in TS3, but the lot loading times were simply unpleasant. It felt like taking a step backwards with one foot and one forward with the other.
I see we're legacy twins. :) I was planning to end my legacy after the end of the second generation, but the reformat ended it for me. The concept is nice, but I felt so...restricted with all of the rules. I really admire those who can finish them.
thelunarfox: I'm having a blast replying to most of the threads. It's good to know I'm not annoying anyone by posting in older threads. (It's a no-no on many forums.)
Rad: Congratulations! It takes a lot to get through ten whole generations. I was beginning to get bored with my family and I was only near the end of the second gen. *laughs* Best of luck to you on your new legacy!
dbloveshermac: Thank you so much!

Ah. I've never really been part of a fandom before Sims so I didn't know it was a general thing. But I suppose I should have figured that it's a general human thing. After all, people tend to buy books by famous authors just because they're famous. And oh, I'm still like that. I abandoned all my Sims 2 stuff due to downrating, lol. I'm getting over it, though. Of course, one could say that it's easy to get over it with the comments on Valley. But the stats page and the comments have been dropping off lately and it is testing my resolve. So far I seem to be winning, but it's a bit of a struggle. Luckily I have my jester to help me through. *waves to Hoopty* I played TS2 obsessively for four years. Haven't played it since TS3 came out and didn't bother to install it on this computer.

Hi Nicole! Nice to meet you! Bah on popularity contests for sure! I definitely enjoy the maturity of this forum. Everyone here seems to be doing what they're doing out of the simple joy of it, with no other motives than just to share a good story. That's the best way to approach it, I think. Anyway, welcome!

Hello, Nicole! It was lovely to find a new member on this forum (and such a chatty one at that!) coming back from a 10+ days sabatical. Welcome to the writer's circle! I never felt the 'competition-thingie' on forums, but that's probably because I only connect with the ones Stacy is into (i.e. boolprop and SVS). Stories should be written for entertainment and art, not for popularity (or so I think). Saying that, this forum is an absolute breath of fresh air when it comes to friendship and support! There is nothing like it out there as far as I know. And I'm telling you... I'm so happy here I don't feel the need to venture out at all. I loved the Sims 2, but never got round buying all the expansion packs. (Probably because I never wrote stories at that time.) After reading part of Lakeside Heights I really regret that. Laura has got a huge Sims 2 story going and it's just awesome. There is, however, something fascinating and utterly attractive about the Sims 3 - even in these (still) early stages of game development. Getting to know new poses, learning to accept and live with certain Sims traits has been riveting so far... and on this forum you'll find people who master and capture all of this in stunning photography! I'm so looking forward to reading your story when you're ready. You are such a likeable person from what I've read in this thread... and don't ever stop being wordy! Bright blessings! P.S. Love your avatar!
