Anyone installed this update? PC? Mac? How's it working? A friend of mine plays TS3 on her PC and she said it gives her Error 16 when she tries to save now. ~anxiously awaiting news, since the TS3 Mac forum, usually a good reference spot for update viability, seems to be broken at the moment~

I'm on a PC and am fully updated and my game seems to be working fine now that I've realized I can't have the detailed lots setting at maximum when traveling around the world.

Thanks, Stacy! I look forward to seeing what havoc Seth wreaks in the land of the Sphinx.

Is that the newest patch? I heard the one being released in conjunction with World Adventures renders most mods inactive or something to that effect. I don't know.
The Error 16 I used to get with the 1.4 patch when I first installed it and it was because I had changed the configuration of the camera and had to reinstall t he original .ini file for the patch to work. Not sure if that helps or not. At least I think it was a similar error ... so long ago. My memory is going!

I Installed it last night on my Windows Vista PC (laptop). There look to be some nifty features, though I haven't had time to explore it all yet: www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=378503I like the idea that parents will both fulfil toddler training wishes (hello LTH). The opportunities at venues are another colour too to make it easier to see them. Apparently most of them will now also have the end times and dates given where applicable but haven't tried that. The only mod I have is no mosaic and that seems OK still. A few glitches though.... It says: Sims living together will now automatically know each other from the start. But in one of my houses there are two sims who still get the 'friendly introduction' interaction. I don't know f this is because one of them married in to the family though. Also: the basement layer is pure black on mine other than a bit of pool in Live mode, which was a bit disconcerting at first as I'd clicked on it accidentally and thought the game had crashed. Haven't seen it in build mode yet. My sim child brought a friend home from school and though we could see him fine on screen, his 'icon' in the phone book and interactions only shows up as a black line. I'm hoping installing WA will fix some of those glitches (and give me a whole heap of new ones!) The game also seems slower on the new patch.

There is ton of talk on MATY right now about the new patches, evidently EAxis put out the new patch then later, sneakily, took out the information about what this patch does then made a new version. However the biggest conspiracy on MATY was that this patch was designed to force people to buy World Adventures. I'm just carrying the information and do not know exactly what-is-what.

I think Eaxis did do a rather shitty job of explaining the patch. I spent an hour yesterday afternoon trying to help a kid from boolprop fix his game because EA didn't explain clearly enough that the original patch was not meant to be installed without WA.
Yes, I cussed. I was angry about the situation. A company that markets games to children needs to make their instructions simple enough for a child to understand.
Other than that, I'm pleased with the patch. It fixed some things that needed fixin'.

DB: I've had the Error 16 message twice now....the second time, I simply clicked "OK" then went to "Save As" instead of save to save my game (and it seemed to save without error). I don't know if it worked (I was leaving the house, so couldn't open it back up and see if I have to rename a back-up file or something).

mdpthatsme - MATY likes their conspiracies. I don't know, I am usually one of those who suffer from game glitches a lot but I haven't had any problems with the new patch or the second new patch that was released. Then again, I am not a big CC or Mod user. I prefer vanilla games most of the time unless I need CC for a story, I tend to be very picky and fussy with my CC installs. And the only mod I ever use is Aikea's camera config and the chaos painting.
I haven't had the Error 16 yet. I'll keep an eye out. (touch wood now I said that!)

Thanks, everybody, for all the info! I have read elsewhere about heap big problemos with the patch for Mac especially. I haven't tried to patch yet. My WA just arrived (wahoo?) and I think I may wait a day or two before attempting to deal with it all. This could have something to do with the fact that work this week felt a lot like being bitten to death by ducks. ugh.
Rachel, are you the other Maccie here? I hope your save-as worked.
Rad, those are some weird glitches, especially the black line one!
Catherine, no wonder you're angry. I quite agree! Rule number one: know the audience and cater accordingly.
MDPthatsyou, if that is true, it will likely backfire on them.
Carnaxa, it sounds like you and I have views on CC in common. I'm very choosy, partly because I'm skittish about it. And now that I've made myself sound like a horse (what? Doesn't everyone think of horses when they hear the word "skittish?" No? Just me?), I'll go find something chocolate and hibernate for the weekend. Maybe I'll get my blog updated before Sunday.
Thanks again for the responses!

I had code 16s. The save as... worked fine and I've played since, but the files look different in the directory. Hmmm. Am a little worried and will be uploading the current families to the exchange in case (plus have a zillion backups).

I spent an hour yesterday afternoon trying to help a kid from boolprop fix his game because EA didn't explain clearly enough that the original patch was not meant to be installed without WA. ...Wait... so does that mean you're not supposed to install patch 1.7 without World Adventures? I feel really stupid for installing it, if that's the case... but I did look for an answer to that question before installing, and all I found was an assurance that the patch was both for people with WA and for people who only had the base game. If the patch is only meant for people with WA, would installing WA fix the problems it created, or would it only make it worse? The only reason I haven't bought WA yet is because of the way the patch screwed up my game; I'm afraid that if just installing the patch caused problems, installing the expansion might make it unplayable.

DB: Sorry I didn't respond earlier--I'm not a Maccie....PC for me. But my "Save As" did work.

Luminessence, it's OK. There was a patch (when I wrote that comment), then there was a patch for the patch. The newest patch available is supposed to work fine with or without WA. It can cause a few problems with custom content, though.
Once you get your cc issues (if any) sorted out, WA is awesomesauce. I wasn't wild about it at first, but it really grew on me and now I heartily recommend it.

The thing that confuses me is that I don't have any custom content. I haven't even bought anything from the EA store, let alone downloaded anything from anywhere else. I didn't have any mods before installing the patches, either. The patch hasn't caused the really serious problems for me that it has for others, but it's made my Sims' aging all screwy (I had to download the Supercomputer mod to let me edit my Sims' ages manually so the game would be playable) and I can't switch active households (not a huge problem for me, since I hardly ever switch active households anyway, but still annoying). Still, if WA isn't likely to cause any more problems than that for someone without custom content, I may go ahead and pick it up

GAAAAH GRRRRRRR AAUUUUUUGH! rant rant rant rant stomp stomp rant I'm about to fling this stupid disk across the room and watch it shatter into a million pieces.
So I had patched and had some problems but was able to play my legacy family some. Rose, who had maxed her fishing skill, was unable to fish anymore, and I couldn't use ANY custom content. There were a few other issues, but I was dealing with it. Then I installed WA. I played with two test neighborhoods, one that preexisted and one new one. The preexisting one was fine for a while, except that after I changed active households once, it wouldn't let me do it anymore. The new game was dandy! Fun trips, much coolness! So, knowing that I wouldn't need to be able to change households for the Foliages, I got my courage up and started to play them tonight. I got two days into it with a couple of good relationships being established, someone grew up, I took them to the dresser, and while in CAS, my controls all disappeared. No amount of clicking, key commands, tabbing out and back, or anything would give me control of my game. I had to force quit the game through Mac key command, losing what I had done. Now when I try to reopen it, it gives me the disk authorization error. I have half a mind to get in the car and drive to EA headquarters and yell at them in person. WHAT are they THINKING putting out something this buggy!?!? I don't use mods. I don't have any custom content that's not from the official Store (and even that doesn't work now). My computer is over and above the minimum specifications. I play the game as intended, shall we say. AND IT DOESN'T WORK. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
ok, i'll go stand in a dark room and take several deep breaths now. sorry for the rampage.

Oh no! That's terrible, DB. I'm sorry your game isn't working as it should--there's no good explanation for it being so buggy!

db: do you have World Adventures installed? If so, then I presume you didn't skip patch 1.6 to 1.7? Some where on MATY they put up a post that said you needed to skip 1.6 if you could because it screws with your game. If not, then you must know that Maxis made those patches for people to go out and buy WA for they won't work properly without the expansion. Sorry about your game. I really do understand that hardship and heartbreak. (edit: some errors)
