Reason #4,012 that I fail at life: I have NONE of my writing backed up, for my whole entire story. Oh yes, it's true! I don't know why I should assume Blogger will be there, and secure, and safe forever. After my whole Photobucket ordeal, I should have learned not to put too much trust in these freebie internet software/hosting companies. So this week, Blogger has been giving me hell. No big deal, all my entries are still there, but the layout is acting funky, not showing any more than 2/3 entries per page, when I have it set to 10. I guess this minor glitch has prompted me to realize that I could actually lose every bit of writing I've done on that blog for the past two years. Yikes! I'm not sure how people usually do this, but I'm just copy/pasting each entry into a word document, which ends up kind of neat, because it copies the pictures too, and saves the hyperlinks, and it looks all neat and tidy and bookish... and you know, when this story is finished, I might even be inclined to get myself a copy printed somehow But anyway, back on point, let this be a reminder to everyone. Back up your stories! Internet software companies are not to be trusted!!!

Your computer can't be trusted either. I had mine die two years ago with about 3 chapters of a story finished on it. I had no back up of the story at all. Now I try to have my documents saved several places. There are many sites that do it or you can get an external hard drive. Whatever you choose, backing things up is a really good idea.

Yikes! You NEED to back up LH. There's too much awesome there.
Have you heard of Blog2Print? That'll print your blogs up if you're ever inclined. I was checking it out for Ruin just to see. Problems so far is with the layout. I don't think you can edit it at all. No moving the pics around and no deleting text that you don't need.
It seems the average price for a soft cover booklet of your blog is between $25 to $35.
There are others, but this one was the most direct and works with blogger.

rootbeer, that's a good idea, having one on the computer and one online, because yes, computers can't be trusted either! Lunar, I just checked out that Blog2Print, and it's been trying to load my site for like 15 minutes, lol! My book would probably end up being like 600 pages I'd definitely want to edit stuff though. (Edit out all the fluff posts, and the gameplay notes probably.) And that's even pricey compared to traditional self-publishing. Only problem is with traditional self-publishing, you usually need to buy a minimum number of copies. I was briefly looking at Lulu.com, and they look like they might be affordable, but I don't know about minimum number of copies. They do business proposals and personal cookbooks and stuff, so you'd think you could get away with just a few. If you do print yours, make two copies, because I want one

This is something that hadn't occurred to me. :\ How nifty that Word copies all of the pictures and hyperlinks too though! I think I'll stick with that, and then put the Word file on my external hard drive and upload it to my host, just to be safe. I'd be so sad to lose Sullivan!
I've been having the 2/3 entries per page problem too, though I only just noticed it last night. I think I have mine set to either 7 entries per page or 7 days worth of entries per page, so 3 at a time is definitely not right.

Carla, I only noticed it recently too! What's up with that? My front page looks ridiculous with my super-long sidebar and only three entries, lol!

Because I still can't figure out how to do that "read more" thing, my front page thankfully doesn't look too bad. My sidebar ends before my current entry does. But gah, 3 per page is not the setting I chose and I want it back the way it was! Stupid Blogger!

Hmmm....save stories in writing on Word or some other program like it then in an email to yourself. For pictures, a flash drive, CD, or you can attach the ones you selected for your chapters on the same email as your Word document. A lot of waiting, attaching, waiting, finding, attaching, sort of thing, but soooo worth it. I've been having computer problems, which ended in the death of Dude, my laptop...I have a new one now. Though the guys at the computer hospital were able to transfer my stuff over, I'm just happy that I had my stuff saved on my emails, paranoia and caution at its best. I just couldn't lose the books AGAIN...ugh. motherboards and hard drives

This thread made me extremely paranoid and it forced me to save everything. It's a good thing, haha.
