The have-nots want to know the scoop, so all you brave Ambitions havers out there please spill: is it wonderful? Is it buggy? Any surprises? I hear there are laundromats! What is architecture like?

Hmmm.... well, I've noticed two bugs so far....
One of my Sims got a promotion, but the text box announcing it didn't come up on the side. They've changed the way that notifications like that come up, so I guess that change impacted that type of announcement,
The other bug I experienced occurred in the new town, Twinbrook. I don't know if it will happen in my other towns as well (I haven't tried it), but I tried to switch active households and I couldn't. I backed out of it and tried to switch houses again, but it wouldn't do it. Finally, I got frustrated and thought "I'll just quit the game and start it up again" and when I pressed quit, it suddenly went into the house I selected. It was weird--especially because I was able to do it once before.
As far as architecture goes...some of the houses are patterned after Greek or Roman architecture, which is nice because you start looking for 2-story columns, and that's when you realize that you didn't have them before--you can select the height of the columns (I can't remember how high they go). The other houses look kinda like lake houses or beach bungalows, etc.. Parts of Twinbrook are made to look swampy.
There are laundromats! Sims have to wash their clothes now (it was so funny, because I was so gleeful about this that my husband said, "Are you seriously excited because your Sims have to wash their clothes now?"). So far, the only things I've really experimented with are the investigator profession and sculpting. The tattoos are fun--the premade town Sims often have tattoos, and it's fun when you pick a house and are surprised by their tattoos when they take a bath or change clothing. I'm really liking it, but so far I haven't noticed all that many new animations for chatting interactions (which was something I'd hoped for). It's still fun!
I've only played

heehee @ being excited about laundry, but if the sims have to go to the bathroom and wash their dishes and take out the trash, they might as well have to do their laundry!
Interested about the variable height columns!
I'm excited to have a new town, because it seems like my Riverview quits working with every other patch. Sunset Valley is getting old, but at least I can depend on it. I'll probably get Ambitions sometimes in the next couple of months.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Ed does in her "new" career! :-)

I love the new way to manage real estate. It pulls up a dialog box where you can see what you own including vacation homes and community lots. Which makes me wonder if my sim can buy a community lot like OFB in TS2. Right now in Twinbrook, the only lots for sale are the ones that sims used to become partners at, though I saw the Twinbrook library as a lot that could be purchased, so maybe there's hope! That was my favorite thing in TS2-- having a sim own a shop and having other sims being able to stop by and see them working. I moved a couple of sims into the swamp, and there's fog! I love the fog. I got a surprise when I had my sims running home and they ran through the fog past some fireflies. I did a double take. It was foggy and dark, and the fireflies were such a lovely little surprise. I'll link some pictures from last night, so you can look and wet your appetite if you'd like. ;D Tattoo on ankleTattoo on backThese are designable the same way their pattern tool is probably going to work. You can't move the design, but you can make layers, recolor things, make them bigger or smaller, and affect the opacity of each layer. FogFireflyEerie on the job training The indoor fog left once she'd cleared up the house. Inventing There are slots on the table, so you can actually decorate it. The paint cans and the binders to his side are things I put on the table. Last night, he finished a little toy and I also put that on the table. Drying clothes on the line That sim is eco-friendly, so he gets moodlets from doing good things like recycling, driving in a car pool, taking his bike, etc. He cooks organic foods too, lol. But in the same vein, he gets a negative moodlet from using the inefficient washing machine and wasting water, or from taking a taxi on his own. I haven't run into any glitches. *knocks on wood*

I don't have it yet, it's released here tomorrow and it's apparently on its way... but I do have the patch and you can get a few tattoo options with that at the spa (or in CAS apparently) and you can indeed buy community lots, at least in Riverview, where my family are until they move to Twinbrook - they even have the option to 'buy' the family graveyard.

Lunar, that fog is incredible! I wonder if the fog keeps the clothes from drying. ;-) I bet it will make for some great story photos.
Rad, how cool would that be, to own your family's final resting place. I wonder if kids don't get arrested for being out past curfew if they're on family-owned property?

Fog?! Oh man! (I haven't seen the fog yet.) Fireflies?! (Or fireflies.)
I'm trying to make myself play through the different careers/professions a bit to see how they work, and to look at new animations. Yesterday I played around with the stylist career and the expanded medical career. I still need to play around with ghostbusting and firefighting, education, etc..

They seem to be neighborhood effects.
ALSO-- world editor in game! Finally! You can place lots and decorations now. This makes me excited for my village world. It really expands the possibilities there.
Ghostbusting has been a lot of fun. It starts out redundant, but after a while it gets a little more challenging.

Place lots?!?! Ohhhhh, I've got to order this!
What is the education career like? Didn't realize they were going to have that one. I've never understood why that's not one of the base game ones, anyway. Pretty common career in the real world.

Too bad Chrome (my laptop) doesn't have enough memory or I'd get Ambitions as well...I suppose you will all have to have as much fun as you possibly can to make up for my loss. oodles of noodles

I love it so far, there seems an awful lot to explore. The self-employed careers are interesting, too, they're not compulsory but they give your writers/gardeners etc something extra to aim for.

Oh man - I put Lilith in a little house in the swamp, with a washer and a grill on the porch and a clothesline. And the fog...*dies* So many story ideas! I already wanted to explore a crime noir story with the private detective career, and now the swamp and the fog has got me thinking about a good old creole bayou voodoo type story. I'm never going to get around to writing Valley as a novel, lol. Three pictures I took, totally unedited because I don't feel like opening GIMP. Stacy, I am rotf @ your pic of staking out the salon! That's so funny! Is there a shampoo conspiracy afoot?
But oooooooowow at your foggy Lilith pics! It's SO nice to see Lilith again. The fog makes me think of a haunted antebellum home.

DB - Thanks! It was nice taking pics of her again. Should I ever get around to writing Valley the novel, I'm going to have to really get into her mind and develop her more. So she's still rattling around in my brain. I do remember an antebellum short story set in Louisiana so I can see that too. MDP Awww, thanks. But now I'm all scared about my name being bolded, lol.

I just wanted to say that I hate you all for having Ambitions before I do. I'll probably just buy it in October when I upgrade my computer. Everything looks so awesome. ;; Thanks for the caps. Working washers and dryers have been a wish of mine for a while now.
