Okay, on a writing forum I joined recently there's a thread about dialogue and tags and all that, and this was used as an example. "Don't do that," Bob said. Without hesitation, she said, "Stop me." So I wanted to show my style, which is to not use dialogue tags. And haha - I said it was a habit I picked up from Sims stories and using pics to show who's talking, but I actually just went and looked at this My Little Pony fanfic I wrote when I was a teenager, well before any Sims stories, and it also doesn't use dialogue tags. So oh well. Anyway, this was the bit I came up with. Bob stared at her. She couldn't do this. She couldn't. If she opened the box, if she saw his soul, she would leave. And he would die. "Don't do that." She looked back at him, her eyes burning with the need to know, the need to understand, the need to not be scared anymore. "Stop me." And that gave me an idea. What sort of story can you do with a person named Bob saying "Don't do that" and a person referred to with a feminine pronoun saying "Stop me"? It can be as long as you like, Sims or not Sims, whatever. It just has to have some variation of "Don't do that," Bob said. Without hesitation, she said, "Stop me." in it somewhere.
