So, I wanted to start this thread to discuss your feelings toward the new TS3 expansion pack: World Adventures. I for one am pretty excited about this first addition to the game. I can't say that I'm going to be into mummy-hunting, scaling the Tower, or climbing over the Wall. As of now, I just use my game as a story-telling devise. What I'm excited about is the fact that now we'll have three other places to visit and live. With great modders out there, I'm counting on the fact that they'll unlock the neighborhoods and make them fresh and empty. I'm especially looking forward to Egypt, solely for the desert, as I need it for another story I'd like to write. I also can't wait for all of the knick knacks and furniture I hope the game brings. I have never had a problem with any of the furniture that came with TS2, or even TS3. In fact, I often find myself using those more than custom created ones. With the advent of three new regions, there has got to be a ton of furniture and goodies to get my hands on! So, what are your thoughts? Want to check it out? Not too sure? Indifferent? I've preordered my copy. Will you?

I'm not sure of what to think of it yet, I suppose it's going to be good. It would be interesting to write stories in different areas- more variety. I'm also looking forward to Egypt, but more because I've always liked it for some, strange reason of mine. So, yes, I think I may pre-order.

I'm pretty excited, though I doubt I'll take full advantage of it as far as gameplay--but from a storytelling perspective, I think it will be awesome! I'm especially interested to see the new interactions between Sims and objects, and how I can use them for my stories. I get really excited about the new furniture and items as well. I don't know if I'll preorder (I haven't had any problems laying hands on copies of the games in my neck of the woods), but I'll definitely get it the day it is released. I am hoping to have my legacy challenge finished by the time it comes out, but I don't know if that will happen. That way, I can dedicate all my time to my non-legacy story.

I already have a short story planned which is based entirely on the new expansion pack, so I guess it's fair to say that I am excited. I need to get around to pre-ordering it so I'll be ready to roll when it's out.
As for the gameplay, I predict I'll be very entertained the first time I send my Simmies on a trip. And, after that, I predict there will be no more just-for-fun trips because it'll have a total "been there, done that" feel for me.

I was very selective about my EPs in TS2, but I will probably get most of the EPs this time around. The thing that intrigues me most about World Adventures is the basement building tool. Well, that and the possibility of some new hair, lol.

So? So? How is it? I want to know what to expect when mine arrives!

Okay, I am having a blast so far exploring the underground catacombs. Then I realized that after me and a sim explore all the catacombs, that's it. Unless I go in and change them, they're always going to be the same. And if I go in and change them that won't nearly be as fun because I'll know what to expect. I still have to try out having my sim learn some martial arts. He's got two days left in China.

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind some questions from a Sims 2 player I was wondering if the new EP allows for custom neighborhood creation yet? And are the new locations like how the Bon Voyage EP worked, like you travel to them from your home neighborhood like sub-hoods? Or are they stand-alone games?

Fox, you are so right. It's a blast the first time around. After that, I'll probably never want to do it again.
LOVE that photography skill, though! That alone makes the EP worth it to me. It's as well developed as the painting skill, I think. Only much more fun because you have to move around and plan and think about what to photograph next.
Laura, the EP does not allow true custom hoods yet (although there are things that can be done to change around what you have). According to Eaxis, the tool for hood building will be out in December sometime.
The destinations in WA work exactly like BonVoyage, except, of course, you only get the one loading screen as you're traveling to the new location. You run around between lots within the new location just as in the main hoods.

Other cons when compared to BV-- though there appear to be houses in the vacation sub hoods, no one lives there and I don't know of a way to get a home. Is there a way to change home base? I haven't played with it enough yet.
Also, new animations? Anyone find new animations between sims? The front cover is a tease and shows a sim sitting in the lap of another while kissing. I miss sims sitting in laps to cuddle.
Edited to fix my cat's typo. She forgets she doesn't know how to write.

Have any of you been having problems with World Adventures? Like slow loading, crashes, etc?

I have the game, but I'm afraid to install it and the new patch because I'm hearing so much about crashing. I think I'll wait until some kinks get worked out before installing.

I didn't have any issues. I did forget to put back the original camera.ini file though, so the patch wouldn't load at first.
But I only played a vanilla game, so I had no CC at all, and I have the draw distance set to short.

I am so proud of myself. This is the first time I ever remembered to zip up my camera mod before installation. :-D Unzipped it later and it's working fine. Have not had problems with slow loading, but I did strip down my cc to only my default replacement genetics. And I have the new patch. Have gradually added in some small mods - no adults on swings, buyable omni seeds, stuff like that. The only ones I've found that aren't working are the ones having to do with trait assignment. I guess they're borked now because new traits were added. And I hear from Stacy that the Chaos painting won't work. Waaaaaah! Had one Code 16 error when trying to save. Used "save as" instead and it claimed to have saved - but the file was corrupted. That might have been because I was trying to save in edit town mode after I had deleted all the Sims from the town. ? I don't know. I just made that theory up out of thin air. Have had no problems with saving regular games, thus far.

Oh no! I worried the Chaos painting might not work. I don't rely on it too much, but it does come in handy. Along with Awesomemod and some other things that probably aren't fully updated yet.
I got the code 16 error too, and did the save as trick. But then my laptop is having an issue with charging (as in it's not charging). So I haven't been able to play at all to see if it works. I have the desktop, but I don't really want to add in WA until after I take screen shots for the next update. Oh and make sure that I backed everything up properly and it will all work on this computer.

Oh, yeah. I normally never install an expansion pack until after Pescado has fixed it. But since I didn't have any games that needed to be saved, I went for it this time.

So, I finally installed it after seeing all the lovely screencaps you guys were posting on your blogs. I haven't had any issues with my game so far but then, I completely wiped TS3 from my computer first and then did a massive reinstall. Took some time having to install the base game, then World Adventures but it was well worth it because I haven't had any problems either with the game itself or with the patch (touch wood). There is a small lag issue every now and then but it's not a big enough problem to be much of a complaint and it tends to only happen when I fast fast forward (which makes them look like the road runner now - so awesome!).
I've never been into the holiday expansions including BV in TS2 (which I never played) but what I can say is that EA seem to have injected a lot more effort into this first TS3 expansion from the little details to the graphic environment. Man, but it's so damn beautiful, right down to that shimmering effect you get when you're in the desert (I think it's called a heat haze).
And the way they've done the underground tombs, what with all the black areas outside of the immediate room reminds me of the good ole hack and slash days. I'm an avid player of Diablo and Titan Quest so that part of TS3 reminds me of that style of gameplay.
I hope they put just as much effort into future expansions. I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with TS3 and the developments they have made. Even with the lack of animations and stuff right now (hopefully more will be added in future expansions) and seasons, I still wouldn't go back to TS2 - TS3 is just so rich and vibrant (in terms of the environment and the sims themselves - I don't even mind the default EA skins and eyes - the eyes remind me a little of BJD eyes).
It's just a playground ripe for storytelling.

I'll agree about the quality of the graphics and scenery. My computer may crash due to excessive screenshots of pyramids . . . I can't resist them!

I've just made the jump to uninstall and reinstall on a different hard drive (gulp). I think everything is backed up to the hilt. People who've installed WA already, which CC/mods have you put back in? I pretty much just have clothes, hair and the no mosaic mod - will they all work fine, do you think?

That stuff should work fine. Anything that was code changing, like Chaavik's gardening less motive loss mods I took out.
