'Creative Avoidance' - doing something else that can be done, to avoid doing something you don't want to do.
At the moment,
I'm creatively avoiding finishing my Sims1 website, by doing the smileys for here.
Finishing the Sims1 website is the creative avoidance for organising my Sims3 downloads so I can get on with my story,
The Sims3 Downloads is the creative avoidance for getting on with setting up my Sims families.
Setting up the Families is the creative avoidance for actually writing the things I need to get to know the characters for when I start writing on Nov 1.
I am the queen of procrastination! And the most complex avoider I can be.
And yet.... All of them need to be done, and give me great joy when I do them.
So why am I avoiding in the first place?
How creative do you get with your avoidance?

When I'm avoiding writing I create projects for myself. It will be the only moment in time when I have to organize my downloads folders, make sure all my hairs are Pooklet colors, make new inheritable freckles, etc.
If it can be done, will kill time and seems necessary. I'm there.

I usually end up doing very mundane things when I'm avoiding doing what I want to do. I'll decide to type up something, and then suddenly I'll be doing the dishes, dusting, wiping down counters, cleaning the microwave or bathtub. I seem to save these things to do them when I want to be distracted.
On the plus side, things do end up getting cleaned and I do feel more accomplished.

Apparently, I was avoiding the monumental task of finishing unpacking until my desktop broke (and playing TS3 was no longer a possibility). What's so strange is that it's not like I play every day, but I guess knowing it is a possibility was enough to make me put it off.
I don't avoid my story as much as I avoid my WYD Challenge...I don't know why, because it's fun, and it's pretty much straight play.
I tend to avoid the mundane tasks by playing, lol!

Hmmm, maybe that's what I'm doing by reading this thread right now...? Well, LH is basically one giant effort of avoidance for my novel, lol! Sometimes I like to pretend it's like warmups, or training - like an athlete before a game. Sometimes it actually is. But then I get to downloading 350 decorative pillows for my game, and I have to wonder, is that really warmup for my writing? lol! I don't mind the mundane stuff though, like folding laundry or doing the dishes. Because I usually think through that stuff, and it can be helpful if I'm stuck on something, I'll get up and fold some laundry, and sometimes I'll be able to work through the block. But man, get me downloading pillows and it's all over, lol!

Uni assignments. Definitely uni assignments.
