I think it's clear that I've moved on. It was nice while it lasted, but it's just too much personally. Obviously, I can't delete entire threads, and it's too much work to take out posts, so I'm just going to leave it as it stands.

Whew... really wasn't sure I'd pull this chapter off, but I got some really lucky shots in.
Chapter 6 is up. Hopefully gives some more insight and possibly closes a gap or two between past and present.

I absolutely love this story, lunarfox! The world you've created, the characters you have living in it, the opposing characters and roles of Edith and Michael... the use of war quotes to build and extend your plots! It's magnificent! I also liked the way your readers have been commenting. I've left a comment with my thoughts and questions at the end of each chapter as I read along. I know now you are not into 'self-promotion' as you say, but I am sure happy I found your story here! That is also why I thought I'd better ask first if it is OK to put a link to your site in my blogroll

Thank you Moondaisy! I definitely enjoyed your comments and insights very much! I went and responded to each one.
I would very much appreciate a link in your blogroll. Thank you. (I say that a lot, but I'm so grateful anyone's reading and enjoying in the first place!)

I read this on the train last night and so far I love it. I really like the way you've tried to think through a new world and the way you seem to have a strong sense of where you're going with it all.

Thank you very much, Rad. It really means a lot to me that others are enjoying what I'm doing. I don't know if I can say I know where it's going (I mean the world of course, the current story is heading to a close) but I definitely know where everyone's been. XD

Read it! I'm so glad I got the bit about Edy's dad and Michael right. But I'm also apprehensive. Michael has a lot of power for such a young child and he is bound to hate Edy's dad. I'm thinking of the children in 'Lord of the Flies' and how cruel they can be when 'unchained'. I am a fan!!!

Oh thank you Moondaisy! I LOVE your comments. I almost feel bad because there is a lot I can't tell you in response to your comments or I might give something away! So I just want you to know if my comments are ever short to your wonderful long ones, that is why. I see the entire "Wildlands" section of the world as a "Lord of the Flies" section. (I so need to re-read that book.) And thank you, Rachel, for your support as always.

So, I was going to comment on your update on your blog, but I forgot most of my login passwords (I'm at work...shh--don't tell anyone), and so I decided to do it here instead.
Truly excellent chapter! I'm enthralled!
Warning: there be spoilers for anyone who hasn't read, so stop reading now!
This explains so much of Edith's relationship to Michael! While he's a genius and advanced in so many ways that Edith can never hope to be, he'll never be able to understand Edith's compassion and kindness in the face of horrible evil, and as such, I think she'll always be fascinating to him. Edith feels responsible for every person he's killed, and it never occurs to her that he should have his own conscience--that he should be able to regulate his own violent impulses. He had no idea of that because he's been trying to stay out of her head.....which makes me wonder--why has he been trying to stay out of her head? Is it his way of trying to respect her privacy? Or is it that he's afraid it will make him grow a conscience? I think carnaxa is right on this score, and that Edith is his weakness and he's worried that the others might try to use her against him. I think that if he can love anyone, he definitely loves Edith.
Perfection! You can't end this story soon!!
