Carnaxa asked me about my thoughts on TS3 as a storytelling tool, and I thought that would be a good question to ask here. Maybe we can all share frustrations and tips.
So far, I've found it to actually work out really well, especially with the "alt" trick. No more having to type in tons of code or use the magi-tray display to pose sims close together!
But I feel like there are quite a few lacking animations. Is it just me? I remember their being more intimate interactions in the base game (tender kiss, romantic kiss, make out, slow dance, kiss hand, to name a few). Am I somehow missing those or are those NOT in TS3?
Also, the whole conversation levels drives me nuts too. I have to really set up scenes where I want two sims to do a particular interaction that is not immediately available. Anyone know of a way around that?

Great topic Lunar!
The 'alt' trick is definitely useful. I also use the ChaosPaintingMod by ChaosMageX over at MTS. I found that helps a lot when it comes to posing my sims for something a bit trickier.
There's an option which I can't remember what it's called now but underneath that, it has Flirt, Flirtatious Joke, Compliment Appearance, Compliment Personality, Embrace, Kiss, Shy Kiss, Make Out but, I think that option seems to be dependant on the traits and the relationship between the sims I think. There's a large portion of intimate interactions that are missing that were in TS2 though.
I don't know of a way other than to get their relationship bar full which seems to open up a whole new level of interactions. I don't even know if there's a cheat to fill up those bars but I do know there's an option from the ChaosPaintingMod to "make friends" with sims. I can't remember exactly what it says.
My biggest frustration is the lack of "sit on ground" animations or "lay on ground". Also I have noticed that when I get them to sit down and then try to move their sit position to something else like a coffee table or box or something, it doesn't work too well, they seem to be linked/attached to the chair they are sitting on. Same if I want the action of going to sit down but I need it for something else, their limbs go completely wonky.
There's been a few times where conversation pieces would have been great had the characters been lounging on the ground instead of sitting in chairs or standing and talking.

I have the Chaos painting, but other than using it to play with fire, kill sims, and do some animations, I haven't been too successful using the painting. I think I'm just going to have to give it a proper try. Maybe I haven't played with it enough.
Yeah, the lack of ground animations is my other peeve too. I mean, from the get go sim could look at the clouds in TS2. Sitting on the ground didn't come until the first EP. So it really makes me excited for the new EP just to have more animations.
For the ground stuff, have you tried playing around with the picnic basket and some creative angles? I'm thinking that's going to be one of my next experiments.
They do look so awkward sitting in the chair, even when they cross their legs. I mean, I'm grateful that they do cross their legs and stuff when they sit so they look a little more natural, but they still sit apart. In TS2, my trick to get sim to look like they're sitting together would be to turn on the 45 degree angle cheat, and then turn the sims so they face each other.
But yeah, I've noticed that they're stuck to the objects too. Kind of annoying. On the plus side, if you grab the object, the sim will move along with the object.

Because there's just so many options with the chaos painting, I'm forever forgetting where I found that or this. It does take a while to find where things are.
Thanks for the tip on the picnic basket. I rarely use that object so I had forgotten all about it. I will have to experiment with that when I go into my game again.
That watch cloud was always my favourite for the ground animations. I did try having them relax on the bed but of course, because of the height, they always look like they are floating above the ground unless you get tricky with the camera angles.
I did see a screenshot recently where a sim looked like they were sitting in the back of a ute. It was pretty cool.
Hopefully, the talented modders will release even more animation objects for storytellers and machinima directors to make full use of. If I knew how, I'd do it myself but I'm a total blank when it comes to modding and making Custom Content. Flies right over my head.

Hmm, there are many interactions missing from the Sims2 like Hang Out, which I always used for ground scenes and Cuddle under the Stars for couples. I miss that one. Interactions are as Carnaxa said to do more with the Traits. It seemed to be a good idea...but only five traits? I have a problem with that all the time. Some of my Simmies are complex...they need about ten of those traits to actually surface what they're like. I just can't wait until someone, who will be a glorified genius, figures out how to make poses...maybe decorgal from MTS will. Cross your fingers! Overall, I really miss "Story Mode" from TS2 so we could have in game stories...EAxis, I guess, wanted to focus more on other things like the custom tool and neighborhood related actions.
