I have a hard time seeing Paula doing anything physical like self defense, I think she'd have a much better chance talking herself out of a dangerous situation; bargaining, reasoning and such like. This is where being an avid reader can actually be an advantage to her - words are her power.
Saying that; knowing exactly how to best give a guy a good kick in the bahoolies isn't a bad thing either.

Hehe, will it bother Alex that Paula told him he smells like a cow?

Aaaah how embarrasing! Oh my, the gossip will be rife now (assuming there is gossip in the Wildlands). I wonder what Henry will think if he hears it?

Shadey, oh that's a good point. When it comes to things like this, I think her mother was a large influence in her life, so I'm sure she would have taught Paula some tricks. But it wouldn't hurt for her to learn how to give someone a good whack.

lol @ that. Did he even notice? Illandrya's most likely right though, I don't think it would matter to him.

Gossip in the Wildlands is weird. I should probably map that out as well, lol. I'm sure Henri will have to hear about it if he doesn't figure it out himself.

I was wondering about Kyrene and Alex's reactions too!

Kyrene was with Brandon though in this chapter, and based on her profile she seems open about sex.

Alex doesn't seem to equate sex with love, based on what was said about his tribe in a previous update, but he has only slept with 4 people though. We know that he has slept with Kyrene, and possibly Lalani? I'm unsure if any others were mentioned.

Alex has a very complicated relationship with sex and love. He's a really fun character to delve into with his own little half chapters when they pop up. (He's the main one doing the ad-libbing because it's not enough that he came in and really started messing with the story I had thought I'd set up.)

He's only slept with 4 people-- he's had three wives (Lalani being the first) and now Kyrene.

Ah, so Paula is getting to see Brandon's other side. I couldn't quite catch it myself, apart from the un-Brandon like smile he gave Alex, but perhaps Paula feels she caught it better than I did. That she now feels she knows and understands Brandon that bit better.

Alex and Brandon are so different from each other, and I can imagine that though they know of each other they have never really wondered what happens in the other's psyche. Saying that, they both seem to have good souls and I can easily see them as friends. - As long as Brandon doesn't feel Alex is a threat to Paula. And that is where there may be some big differences because I have a feeling that Brandon and Alex have very different views on what is bad for Paula and what is not.

Kyrene is a smart cookie, I am all for a girl using all her weapons, even if it may seem like cheating. She needs to use all she's got; she may be strong and fast but there is no denying that men usually always have the advantage of build and strength. Go girl I say.

Great chapter, I was really looking forward to learn more of this sparring and you didn't disappoint.

Shadey, exactly. I also felt the same way too-- that I didn't give him enough time with this new side to him. He concedes so early. But I actually think there's a reason for that. We won't get to Paula's impressions and what she saw for another update.

I'm so glad you say that. You are right on. that is how I see the situation between Brandon and Alex too.

lol, that's true. Though Kyrene didn't even use her power here. That usually gives her some leverage when she's fighting for real.

Er...so I just realized that my next chapter will have some sparring, and a few elements in common with your recent chapters...I promise I've had it planned for weeks now, but given the timing it might look like I'm copying you (just like our character names a long time ago, lol). I hope you'll forgive any similarities!

Aw, I'm not worried. Completely random that it happened that way! Considering our stories, I would expect a similarity like that. Plus, besides the Ediths we also have black haired, blue eyes dare devils, lol. (We should send those two out for a drink and have them talk about women and how difficult they can be. Yes Ed and Pat, I'm virtually looking at you two.)

Haha. It is weird how sometimes we seem to be on the same wavelengths. It could just be a case of similar minds and similar influences. If someone's copying someone else, it's usually very clear.

That being said, just so you all know, I usually write these things way in advance or have them playing out in my head for a while before I write them down, so if I do anything similar to you, that's just coincidence, lol. Though I will freely admit (and give credit) when someone gives me an idea. Like the next update, which hadn't been planned, was pretty much brought about by something Shadey said. ;D
